...but I admit I kinda "cheated" I went to a bottle show this weekend & really was broke, but was there to look around & see some people. Actually saw half the folks who post on this forum, Rob, Ted, Bill H. etc....
The first table I look at I saw this crude, heavy, colonial black glass English ale bottle leaning to the left. I examined it closely as I've always wanted to dig one whole which is near impossible because they were used over & over in the household until they broke. I have tried to glue some back together

Then I looked at the top, which was also very crude & matches all the tops we see plowed up in the fields & dig near colonial houses. Most everyone agreed this was probably a 1770's piece or so...

Then I examine the base.....super crude bottom still very sharp in places & shows why it leans over to one side which I think gives it alotta crude character. It's also very much like the jagged "sicky ball" base I dug a few months back in pieces. You can see the wear on the base from heavy useage..

Well, I walked away knowing I really didn't have the $$......but I kept going back to look Then I saw Howard & remembered he was in the "Camp Finds" story for W&E. Well, I just got a check for the recent story in the mailbox. It arrived Sat., & was for the same amt. as the bottle!...so I figured that was sign.....I better get it or I'll be kickin' myself till next years show!

here's the bottle....surrounded by some similar ones I have found in pieces.....
I have to say it looks awesome in my display case alongside some shoe buckles & colonial iron relics.
It's a perfect fit & the pics don't even do it justice really, but it's freezing out there & I ain't trying more!
....I've been "coon fingerin'" it all weekend! heh heh
