Any idea what this is? It's heavy and magnetic. I've done some basic google searches but have had zero luck. Other sets of eyes can't hurt.
 
There is a Gurney Ball Bearing Company. I would say that you have a bearing cover plate. In the second picture you can see the oil hole at the upper center of the piece.
