The all metal threshold of the Golden uMax had a peculiar gurgling sound, not a steady hum. What does the Tejon's threshold in all metal sound like? With 32 and below weather approaching, the LCD on various makes of detector may have problems, ranging from slow response to damage. Time for a good meterless detector!

I've got a Golden uMax on the way and don't need to hear about a gurgling threshold <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">. How do you like the Golden? I've amost bought one a dozen times, I had a couple of GS II's and liked the audio, but never got around to getting one. One of the first things I'm gonna do is lose the 8X9 coil and stick a 7" on it. Don't know about the LCD's and freezing weather, seldom gets below 32 here, but never had any problems with Garrett or Whites LCD's in mid 30's weather.

You can make it sound like anything you want, from a low growl to a hugh pitched tinny whine. The VCO tone knob in the middle of the controls panel lets you control the pitch of the tone. But wherever you set it, you will probably find the tone a little less steady than your other detectors. The threshold tone is a bit "wavy", but one adjusts to it quickly after a few ground balancing sessions.

I didn't like the fast autotune and thought the tone ID could be better - a greater tonal range. Some people like it, just do their pinpointing in discrim mode. Not a bad machine but if I get another Tesoro, the Tejon would most likely be it.
