Gun Tool?

Some wood stoves had removable handles so it wouldn't get so hot.
What's the little pin thingy on the left side?
Looks too good to be very old...

I think it is to small for a wood stove handle. It's only about 2 1/4 in. long. It's condition might be misleading. It was found in a small stream/spring that I've found coins from the 1700's and they came out like new. The little spot is just dirt or a mark. Thanks for the input.

Looks like the handle and blade holder for an early wood plane.

It also could be a holder for lifting the lids off an old wood cook stove but it doesn't seem shaped just right for that. What's the other side look like?
