Found these today on a site that has Civil war history and has been a VFW site for 40++ years. The trigger guard last three letters says "**ion 45" The medal says sterling on the back and has pins for securing to a jacket. Any ideas?? thanks DDigger

Gun is a mark 2 stallion cap pistol. I think?? Take a look at the pictures on here:

Those are awarded only to Soldiers that were in harms way.

Hi Jim West Pa.

DollarDigger made a positive ID on the Badge. That is in fact an Expert Infantry Badge, and that style has been around for a long time, not many folks have it in Silver. The US Army Combat Infantry Badge is the same except it has a reef around the rifle. The reef reflects that the person awarded it was in a documented firefight, and any stars above the reef stand for another documented firefight that happened during a separate tour (US Army tours were 1 year). The award is only given to solders that are in a combat arms infantry MSO.

To receive the Expert Infantry Badge a solder must Ace the EIB test, the test is normally given when a solder is at his permanent unit. The test is different than the one given to pass the Advanced Infantry Training Course (AIT). The AIT course is given after an infantry solder passes basic training. The solders that pass AIT are awarded the Blue Infantry Rope. The rope is worn on the Class A uniform, they also sport a collar disc with crossed rifle and a regular US collar disc, but both collar disc have an infantry blue background.
