Gun part from cellar hole site

Friday 12/23 was warm here in Ct. Mostly overcast and a few very light sprinkles - but in the 50's! HAD to get out!!
I hit an old cellar hole spot I had been to a few times before over the past couple years. My takes in the past were: 6 coppers including 3 draped, a three cent silver, about 20 various flat buttons and Lime disease. True - LOL.
This time I found 5 more small flats and a tiny "ball" shaped button. The most interesting find was a brass trigger guard unit from an old black powder gun. It's fairly large and I'm hoping it's military. In the photos you can see the remains of a steel or iron sling swivel at the rear of the guard. This was found in between some rocks that had formed kind of a boundry near a rock "corral" type formation.
Any info on the trigger guard would be appreciated.
Note in the photo with the buttons: the top left one still has cloth or material on the back. The lower right one is fairly spherical shaped and I'm thinking might be military.
Thanks for sharing. Bruce in Ct

Nice. The trigger guard is a nice relic, evoking images of the wild west, eh? And the buttons just scream that you're about to find a colonial coin, bust, or large cent, or reale or something :)

Had the trigger guard ID'd as from a 2nd model Brown Bess flintlock musket. The rear part has a section broken off at the screw hole.
Great news for me!
Thanks for all the replies. Bruce
