Thought perhaps some of you would like to take a gander at a real scoop. 11LBs and stainless steel. When waves are pounding, it stabilizes me, when current is running hard, I'm anchored, when treasure needs scoopin', it don't break! Handle is 3041 stainless pipe and T. I like it!

Very nice, GH. Heavy scoops are nasty en route or in the shallows, but a real plus in surge. Once you try the "T" you will never do without it too. On some of these steep, rough draws if your scoop was ever pullled from your hand it would be in Cuba before you blinked. Nice for getting stuff in the corner of a dig too.

I ordered this scoop yesterday, S/S

I've bent this one in 3 months, don't put much weight into it on wet sand, it will bend right at the brace in back.

Hiya Gulf Hunter...

I am looking for a long handled scoop and since I have to order it from the US (our selection is so poor here in Australia), I want to make sure I get the best I can get without going too overboard. Shipping alone will be a bit dear but it is worth it if the scoop is built to last. I've had my short handle SS scoop for over 15 years and it has served me very well but having recently bought myself a new Headhunter PI, it'll definitely put me more in to the surf and I want to be more prepared.

cheers...Keith

it cuts into shell and stone like butter. It is strong and well built, I have not had a problem with it.

It might be cheaper for you to have one built. The shipping may run you well over $100 USD.

Not sure if you would want to go my route. It is custom made. The bucket itself is available from Alexander Enterprise, in South Houston TX. I throw out the galvanized handle and get a 3041 stainless pipe and T handle and have the welder do his thing. Coastwise has one and may sell it to you, but as Bobbie said, the freight would be very expensive. GH

I think I paid around $100 for the scoop, $40 or so for the stainless pipe and T and around $40 for the welding. It's been a long time and the $s have slipped through time. I have 2 of them, just in case one breaks. I hate down time! Coastwise had his built last and I would bet he would sell it! 11LBs is tough on the old salt! I like it for my type hunting. It certainly is not for everyone. It's tough in the wetsand, because of the weight, but in the surf, I can twirl it like a baton! It's a sight to behold! Also a formidable weapon, should some jerk decide he wants to tango with me! GH
