Guess whose getting a Vaquero?

You will like it. It is sensitive and deep. I found some deep coins with mine.

You will love the Vaquero. I think it's one of the best, yet underrated, machines on the market.

Get a 5.75" concentric coil too. It will pick through the trash like a laser beam.

Make sure you have good headphones so you can hear the nuances of the supposed "single tone". I run my threshold at 3 o'clock and my sens at 10. Don't expect to supertune all the time. You will loose some of the ability to disc out some objects. I find I can only supertune when relic hunting in farmer fields, and sometimes I can't there because seemingly innocent rocks become "hot".

Battery life will be about 12 hours. Don't wait for the battery check to get down to 2 or 3 beeps. Before that happens your Vaquero will start acting weird. I can't really discribe with words how it gets weird, but it just feels "off". A fresh 9V and it's back to running like a champ.

You're in for a great detecting experience with your Vaquero. Good choice!

Thanks Dan ,

I have Killer B headphones and this deal came with the stock coil and a 5.75 coil on an extra rod . I will start out using your settings and see how they work out in my situations . I started out many years back with Tesoro's so I'm familiar with those single tone nuances . I just hope I have enough brain cells left of memory to get at least some of my old skills back . Thanks also for the heads up on the battery life . I've been using rechargeables in my present detectors so I will have to pay attention to the beeps . I 'm primarily a coinshooter and jewelry hunter although I have stumbled upon some nice relics over the years . I'm not really that worried about learning to supertune ( at least not yet ) . I'm really excited and can't wait for it to get here .

Hey George---You will like the "V", it's a good machine.-----We had a couple of them & never found a place they wouldn't work at & perform quite well, always.------One thing though, like Dan says---watch the battery strength.----I have batteries get weak on the V without knowing it & have missed targets because of it (weak battery).----It can happen on that machine, I don't care what anyone says.----Other than that, it's a great detector!

Wow D&P , thanks for a re-emphasis on the battery strength warning . I usually carry an extra one in a plastic pill bottle for my pro-pointer , it looks like I'll be carrying two now .

Thanks hardrockminer , I'm loving what I'm hearing .

Vaquero + 5.75 inch concentric coil = awesome.

I've found that setting the ground balance to neutral and having the all metal audio set so there's just a faint hum before flipping over to the discriminate mode is the perfect setting for hunting in iron laden sites. Also find the place on the discrimination dial where a rusty nail just breaks up. The Vaquero with those settings works just as well around iron as most detectors do. If you run it 'hot' (super tuned) it will get a little more depth, but the discrimination is not as good. The Killer B's you have is a good match for the Vaquero.

Thanks for the tips tabman . I will be doing a lot of my hunting in iron infested sites and I plan on putting that 5.75 on the first thing the
Vaquero gets here .

Thanks, are you using the stock 9x8 coil ?
I did use the 8x9 for a while then I bought a 5.75 concentric and never took it off. The V is deep and sensitive. It is a little hot on iron but that just goes with the territory of a machine that will air test a dime 11 inches deep. I did not have an issue with the battery. Mine went forever on a battery. However I did not super tune. (hated supertune) to me it was just as deep tuned normal and you got a good modulated audio tone. You just have to listen for the deep ones. I also used headphones.

The Vaquero is a great detector and I'm sure you are gonna like it. Super tuning it will give more depth, but it comes with a price...the V seems to like iron more when super tuned.
Your Killer B's headphones are a good match for the Vaquero, they sound really good on this detector....HH

Battery's Critical especially when weather is cold like today for me. Today pulled out 42 good targets $7.96 clad and 1 925 ring with a 10X5 DD elliptical and I changed the battery mid hunt. Killer B's and Vaquero can't go wrong.
