GTP 1350 any good finding coins in iron infested sights?

New member
Just traded for a GTP 1350 and haven't had a chance to hunt with it.
About 4" of new snow on the ground here temp is 13 degrees. Been playing with the 1350 indoors. This is my first Garrett, this is what I see so far in air test and test garden. On a scale of 1 to 10.

depth 7,

ID 7,

ease of use 8,

finding targets in iron trash 4,

bang for the buck 8,

I took it out in my test garden and it found every target except the ones close to rusted iron. Set up a quarter on a wood yard stick and attached a rusty nail with a rubber band, the stock coil could not id the quarter until there was 6" distance between the quarter and the nail.
Done the best in zero mode, quarter registered between pull tab and penny.

Over all I think this is a good machine, I hope I'm wrong about the iron thing. I wouldn't give any machine a 10...nothings perfect!

comments and suggestions welcome

Hope this doesn't bend anybodies feelers, just commenting on what I see so far and like I said I haven't hunted with it yet.

Thanks in advance for comments, suggestions and pointers.

You can't bend anyone's feelers on this forum. You might want to pick up a sniper coil for hunting in heavy iron. Keep your sensitivity down to about 6 or so. Garretts usually do pretty well on iron.

If this is your first Garrett then be advised it doesn't perform quite like other machines so don't expect it to. There is a slight learning curve to familiarize yourself with the 1350's subtle nuances. It's a great machine. I field tested the prototype and the production model.

Thanks for the comment uncle willy, I'll set the sensitivity to around 6 and give it another try... I had it at 9 and 9.5 first time around.
wish this cold weather would go away the ground is hard as a rock around here... i'm not as tough as the snow pirate!!! LOL

YEah any time you're in iron infested or trash infested sites keep the sensitivity down. I normally hunt in 6 or 6.5. Be surprised what you find. High sensitivity masks a lot of good targets. I keep telling folks it ain't a depth control but I don't seem to get through to some.
