GTI2500 Treshold question

Dear 2500 users,
what's the added value of the treshold tone? is there any reason not to put it so low you can't hear it? the sound drives me crazy!
another question, what's the difference between ZERO-mode and ALL METAL mode? looks the same for me, is the depth the same?

Thanks

Iit's good to kreep just a very low audio for threshold, as it lets you know it's (detector) turned on. Also, in true all metal mode, if it is turned right off, you might miss a very deep signal giving a very soft sound.

I keep it totally silent in Discriminate mode, but as John said I keep it on in all metal...I set it at 6 usually. On that number it will be silent in disc but as you search in all metal you will hear it fluctuate as ground changes and will hear a small crack of the threshold on a small or deep target.

It's only to establish the audio for pinpoint and all metal. Turn it down to a very slight hum or silent. I run mine at a faint hum so I know my tector is working all the time.

I for one prefer to run with a faint threshold sound, since I am usually not a headphone user. (Headphones are too damn hot and uncomfortable for south GA in the steamy summers, for one, and I hate getting tangled in the cord. I do use 'em sometimes, though).

If you don't use headphones much, it is nice to have the faint threshold there so you know you'll be hearing any faint signals.

One significant difference between ZERO discriminate mode and the ALL METAL modes is that one is motion detection and one is non-motion. In ALL METAL you've got a similar response to what you'd get with an old TR detector- if you park the coil stationary over the target, you'll get a continuous steady tone until you move it away. With the ZERO mode, it's more like the usual VLF detector response- your coil has to be in motion to get a signal.
