GTI1500 Freezes Up

I was out hunting today in East Texas when the display froze up on me. I couldn't get any response from the buttons. I couldn't shut the machine off. I set it down and pulled the batteries out and placed them back in. Turned it on and the display showed the batteries to be low. These batteries were fresh. I pulled them back out and put them in the opposite sides of the pack. Powered up and it started working again. I then reset the detector and it ran fine from there. What do you think went wrong? I noticed I had my cell phone in my coat pocket on the same side I hold the machine on. Could it have been the cell phone causing interference?

Hard telling but it could have been the cell phone. Did you try to reboot the detector when it went flat? This often fixes most problems.

Since you re-arranged the batteries and the problem was solved it seems it must have been a bad battery connection.

That same thing happened to my brother on his 1500. He had put in new batteries and didn't put the packs in right. Put them in right and it worked fine. HH

This has been going on since I bought the machine. I find it will occasionally freeze when going from "all metal" pinpointing mode to "last" mode. I bought it used so I have learned to live with it.

I noticed a similiar problem with the 1250, which occured
after placing the detectors on the ground.
Started to pay closure attention and noticed that I had would place my headset on top of the front panel.
That pressure on mutiple keys was causing the microprocessor to lock-up during the time spent probing for coins.
The 1250 keys are elevated, not sure about the 1500.
It took 3-4 weeks of monitoring my actions before drawing this conclusion.
Not to say this is your problem, just be aware of your actions when the problem occurs.
