GTI verses Cibola:detecting:

Mick in Dubbo

New member
While in Sydney at the week end, I managed to team up with a forum member, Elroy. We went to one of my honey holes, Elroy armed with a Cibola armed with the 18x3 inch cleansweep coil and myself with the GTI 1500. Elroy also brought his GTI 2500 as well. He let me hunt with both his detectors and I did enjoy them, however, I preferred the 1500 over the 2500 due to it's lightness. It didn't perform any different to the 2500 either. his Cibola talked a whole different language Pretty good, but I do prefer the 1500.
It was great to get together and have a yarn as well as do a spot of detecting. I found $32.50 while he found $42.10. So having twice the ground coverage didn't help as much as the imaging. per sweep. While there, I was approached by a lady who had lost her ring in her garden 12 months prior. I didn't have time to help her due to other commitments, however, Elroy was able to help her and she was thrilled to have her ring back. (It had a lot of sentimental value.)
I did get to have a short hunt the day before, curtailed by rain, but did find $8 in about 40 minutes. That brought my total for this short trip to just over $40. I must say how much I really enjoyed the GTI for it's imaging. When you get the hang of it, it is a superb discrimination devise that in my opinion, I have not used a better visual discrimination devise on a detector. It's very reliable, with useful tones.

P.S. Elroy used his Cleansweep armed Cibola for his detecting. Thanks for the day Elroy. It was great to meet you.

I agree have 1500 my self along with other machines but love 1500

Sounds like you boys had a great time!! Nothing like a little company and competition on a hunt!! And you got some good totals too!! One good thing about the cleansweep it does a great job on windows when you're not detectin'!!
Great to hear from you again Mick!!

Mick
you went with Elroy
not LeRoy

G'day BCD.
Unfortunately, I don't get out to detect as much as I'd like, so when i get a chance like that, I really Enjoy it. i haven't been able to get near Sydney for the last 18 months, so that made it doubly good. I've been enjoying, reading your posts and am glad to at least see others enjoying their hunts.
Like the alternate use of the cleansweep. Kinda like 101 things you can do with a cat.

Two big differences in GTI2500 and 1500.......2500 is big and boxy and tougher to handle while the 1500 is easier to handle for long periods however the 2500 has the all metal mode that ID's and the 1500 does not have and used correctly really a deep seeker. Always give and takeaways from one unit to another. As far as the Cibola a non-metered unit that gives very little info and probably more a relic type beep and dig..and no comparison with all the facets of Garretts imaging units..
