GTI imaging

In reading several posts about the 1500
it seems that imgaing isnt as accurate(?)
at a certain depth/depths

What is that depth and...does that mean if i get
a solid signal like belltone at 8 inches and it reads
B it may not be a coin? I guess the rule of
dig everything applies right?

On my 2500 deep coins usually image as size A. Sometimes as size B. Sometimes even as size C. The indicated depth is almost never accurate below about 5 or 6 inches. I dig all those signals. Sometimes its a rusty nail. Sometimes a deep crushed can. Sometimes, sadly not too many this year, a deep old coin. You knew the answer to your question before you asked it. Dig it. Let your eyes decide if a target's a keeper. You can also use your Propointer to figure out what a target is. You should know how far away it will begin to pick up a coin. If it begins to indicate a target and you're holding it 3 inches from the bottom of your hole you can probably assume it's larger than a coin. I still recover most of those targets too. Just in case. My two cents.

Even though the imaging has it's depth limits, it is a real timesaving feature on perhaps 90% of the targets you will encounter, in that it can show you the size before you dig. It will aid you in making that dig/no dig decision.

Basically max Imaging on a quarter will be at 6 inches with the 9.5 coil. But with the 12.5 coil I got a pulltab at 10 inches size B on the scale and it was exactly what it said it was. This was in mid mild ground (6-7). Imaging gets less accurate and less depth readings the hotter the ground. (10+)

I've notice the same problems with my 2500, especially in these parts with its high mineralization. When hunting in the Kansas City, area, the problem almost never occurs.

I noticed something odd yesterday. when i scanned a target at a slow rate of speed, it came up as 6.5 to 7, but when I whipped it back and forth like I read about in the forum, it scanned a 4.5 to 5 target. What's up with that. I was scanning a pickle jar I had buried in my little test bed with some coins in it in relics and custom mode. If I am not mistaken, it showed a 6.5 to 7 target in jewelry and coins mode, also.

When I scanned the same item with all metal, it showed a 9.5 target? The all metal did increase the depth of detection by about 4 inches, tho. Inquiring minds want to know. Used the 9.5 coil on my 2500.

Motion detectors discriminate better and go deeper the faster you scan over a target. That's why I tell everyone to do the twitch over questionable targets. Also correctly centering the target with a GTI is absolutely critical. A lot of penny ID's can be turned into quarters with correct centering. These are touchy machines and you can't get sloppy with them like you can with other detectors.

Yeah one must remember that the receiver for imaging is only about two inches in diameter so has its limits on depth and accuracy.

Hey buddy!Double"D" search coils don't discriminate as well as concentric, but I take it slow and pretty much dig everything(unless I'm feelin' lazy or hurtin')
I do prefer double"D"s besause they cover more ground at depth than concentric=less chance of missing anything.Happy Hunting!
