GTI and gold prospecting

landman

Member
Is this a good combination? I know the GTI can find gold but with the recent upgrade chip I just read about, what are the results. I loved the GTI and have not owned one in years. Been thinking of prospecting, been dreaming of the GTI again.
But is it a good marriage, and if so why?

I just noticed the Garrett Scorpion gold machine is at 15hz. vs. GTI's 7.2 hz.
How much of a performance difference would there be for gold?

Do the freqs in a machine make the difference in finding gold or not? I know the ACE 250 isn't made for finding it. Is it the freq or the strength of the signal?

It is both but mainly the higher freq. the smaller the nugs. I prospect with my GTI 2500 and have found 2 nugs in Georgia with it...7.2 grams and 0.3 grams. That one is small stuff there. I have also found a 0.1 piece of metal with the 2500. It actually is a more sensitive machine than the Scorpion because it is newer technology. The Scorp is getting old. But basically a higher freq detector is more sensitive to low conductive metal. If a detector is hot on a nickle it will be good for Gold. Thats straight from Jim Straights Prospecting book!

Good Luck...

Once found a lead bullet at an honest 14" in a clean field with the white 9.5" coil with the GTI2500 in all metal. But am not sure about fine gold and so I appreciate your input.

Well as far as fine Gold goes with the GTI 2500...I use it in manual ground balance in All Metal Mode to find black sand deposits. In a thick deposit you can find good gold that I recover with a Gold Pan. Is the only way I pan for Gold now. Makes it less trial and error thing. Alan

The new chip was at the request of the boys in Australia with some of the toughest ground in the world. So it should work just fine for nuggetshooting. It already has all the other required attributes.

Yeah and my old buddy JImbo knows his gold prospecting. He has one of the first Scorpions ever made and it's practically worn out. :)

If you need an all round go for the GTI and a few extra coils to get more gold.
Small coil (4.5") for fine gold that is not deep
Big coil (12.5"?) for big gold deeper down, this coil may be chosen after site conditions.(high mineral content to name one)

If you want one for only gold loot at the Gold bug II or the White's GMT for small or a ML for big and deep gold.
