GTI 4.5 non-imaging Scorcher coil

I've always been a fan of small coils and have them for most of the 11 machines that I own right now.

When I got the 4.5" coil for my 1500, I immediately compared it, head-to-head against my 1000 PM with the same sized coil... the original post is buried somewhere over on the "Depot" Garrett forum.

I used air/test-plot and target seperation tests to compare the two and this is what I found:

For air/plot testing, results were very similar except for the fact that the 1000 PM hit harder on quarters for some reason and would pick them up about 1.5" further out. The 1500/sniper rig hit harder on the gold rings I tested it on. Both machines were set at similar sens. settings. Both did comparably well on a clean test-plot.

One area where the 1500/sniper disappointed me was in the area of target seperation. This was tested by placing trash around coins and seeing which machine prevailed with the trash disc'ed out.

(My 1500 didn't do well in the area of target seperation with any of the three coils I had for it when compared to most of my other machines and that's partially why I sold it).

Don't get me wrong, the 1500 is a capable machine in clean ground, I just prefer better performance in junk in the areas where I seem to find myself hunting.

Sorry for being long-winded and not trying to bash... these were simply my observations with the 4.5" Scorcher coil.

HH!

Well, just got my 4.5 a couple of days ago and went to the back yard. I've hunted my yard a million times but somehow missed the 1952 Franklin half and the 1946 silver Rosie I found with it. I've got a lot of places to hit again now.
