GTI 2500's FAST-TRACK function...I'm CLUELESS

Screamin Eagle

New member
I purchase one of the first GTI 2500 some 8 years ago.
In those years, I'm been very successful by only using it in the Treasure Talk mode.
The only limitations, treasure talk doesn't go super deep. I've been told you need to be in Fast-Track or All METAL Mode to go deeper.

I have never been able to figure out the Fast TRACK or the ALL METAL modes.

Is there anyone out there that can give me the low down on how to use these functions?
Example....I swing very quickly in the Treasure Talk mode....Fast Track doesn't seem to work when you swing, but then it doesn't talk to you either. Are these functions that different? Where you have to use a different scanning style all together.
I use the 9.5" coil that came standard with the detector (when it was first released).

I love my detector, but like to use more of it's features.

Can you help?

Some of my finds...(:geek: Indian head pennies (oldest 1892), Barber dime (1899), (5) Mercury Dimes, Liberty Half Dollar (1944), Liberty Head Silver Dollar (1933), (20) Silver coins (1950-1960). A $500 Fossil Watch (which I wear today), (:geek: Silver and diamond rings, a 50 caliber Civil War bullet, two (4 inch long--125 year old) Black Bear claws...they were wrapped in burlap, held together with square nails...I dug on the square nails.

I greatly appreciate any help.

If I am not mistaken, Fast Track is a function that automatically adjusts ground balance in ALL METAL mode. It helps to keep the machine stable in changing ground conditions. The machine will go deepest in ALL METAL non motion mode, but ID will not be accurate on deeper targets. I found it difficult to use under normal operation conditions. The Treasure Talk feature will have no impact on depth. I kept it in the "B" position, which works in pinpoint mode only. It gets annoying being on all the time.

Fast Track is simple. Just press and hold the All Metal/Fast Track button while bobbing the coil up and down from about two inches to eight inches above the ground until there is hardly any audio sound. Then release the button and start hunting. From the looks of your finds you ain't been doing to bad. Unless you have some really nasty soil you may never have to use manually adjusted all metal. And Auto Track will keep the balance adjusted.

Thank you for that insight. Doing most of my MDing in Indiana, where the soil is pretty consistent, keeping it in Auto Track (what I call Treasure Talk) sounds like my best bet.

When you said "B" mode only, how do I target only "B" sized items? The biggest thing I'm trying time do at this point is go deeper. I have a location (open plowed field) which was used 100+ years ago as a bivouac. Not a lot of trash, but I've really covered the top 4 inches (which resulted in the Barber Dime, Liberty Half, 5-Indian Heads)...what would you recommend for going deeper (buying a 12.5 coil, some other feature on the GTI)?

Thank you for your thoughts.

So additional clarification, would you use the Fast Track in sandy, salty soil (beaches, or Florida type soil). I know there's a salt elimination feature, but is Fast Track better overall in this type of soil?

Thank you for your advice.

How long have you been using your GTI 2500?

Tell me about the best feature you use on the GTI 2500.
How do you get deeper, say passed 8 inches, with yours?
I find it's dead on from 1 to 6 inches, but contacts past 8 inches are few and far between.

Winter comes too early very year, just when I get really ready to attack my locations it gets cold and frozen. Bummer!

First of all "Treasure Talk" is not a hunting mode. It just tells you audibly what is going on with your display. Fast Track is a quick and easy way to get into all metal without having to do manual ground balancing. Auto Track keeps it adjusted at the correct operating level. You don't target or set your machine for 'B' items. The size and conductivity of any given target will determine whether it is ABCDE. These are the five sizes of targets set by the imaging grid. Different targets will fall under different letters. Most coins and rings fall under 'B'. Different targets fall under the other letter sizes.

Using Fast Track will take you deeper than discriminate mode. Setting your sensitivity higher iwill get you deeper also in normal to mild soil. If there is a lot of trash and or mineralization then this can work against you and make your detector unstable. So always keep your sensitivity set at a level where your detector remains stable and doesn't false and chatter. Use the Fast Track and it will take you as deep as you want to dig.

Thanks Bill, but I'm sorry I'm not explaining myself to you correctly.
Do you swing the detector in the same manner for the Fast Track all-metal mode as you do in the normal (what I call Treasure Talk) mode?

When I go to Fast Track all-metal, it seems like the audible alert is on continuously, verses in (what I call Treasure Talk) the audible alerts or tones only come only when you past over a specific target which you have targeted, i.e. 8+ "b" at 4 inches (which is a Dime).

It's hard to explain this stuff sometimes, so I would love to talk to you have you ever have time. 812-522-2992
