:pulltab: Anyone using a Garrett GTI 2500 for gold mining? I have one and was wondering how they do at prospecting. Any info would be greatly appreciated. GOOD HUNTING

What type of gold hunting are you doing? Looking for tiny nuggetts in streams, or veins, or checking old piles of gravel?

How old is your detector? As of last October, they came with a new chip in them that will handle the mineralisation in gold country a lot better. If you have an older unit, you can get an upgrade. The chip costs about $40 US. I spoke with Phil from the Gold Mining Centre, who was involved in the upgrade, and he tells me that he can hit a coin sized target at 12 inches in those conditions. That is extremely impressive for a VLF machine.

Well thanks Mike for the info. I will email Garrett and see if I can install the chip or if I have to send in the detector. Thanks again Pete
