GTI 2500

Hi all this is my first post here.
Not to start this off and make anyone grind thier teeth but I have used a tesoro bandido 2 for years and have done very well with it.But I have been concidering updating for a couple of years now, and am in the process of buying a GTI 2500. Partly do to the point I dont really have the time to do the learning curve on the explorer and partly do to the point that the poor old bandido just dont go deep enough.
It really got under my skin the other day my brother in-law and I went out to a church that had been hit a few thousands time and his 1000 found a really nice dime. He left it in the ground and had a great signal on it about 5 maybe 6 inches deep on edge. I got a trash signal and would have walked over it more than likely.
Alot of the places we/I go have been hit before many times and have had a hard time decideing on wich detector to buy and have settled on the GTI2500 wich i hope is the right one for me. Should have by end of week to start learning.
Any suggestions thoughts do`s or dont`s that you could give would be greatly appiciated. Iknow all detectors have a learning curve and they all have thier own little quirks.I`m sure the 2500 has it`s also.
Heck of a way to say hi i`m` new to the forum lol

The 2500 is a great machine, you will love it. You first thing you will probably want to do is turn the voice mode off. It is only interesting for a short while and then you will probably get tired of it. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

You`re probably right the voice mode sounds like a way to burn battery juice to me. And i have listened to tone for so many years that i hope that the change and having the screen trying to tell me everything im doing doesn`t get irratateing. Big change for me I have a white idx and for me think it has gotten used maybe one set of batteries.
Poor thing sets in corner and collects dust.Guess thats what a back up supposed to do untill it`s needed.

Welcome aboard. Will be looking forward to seeing some pics. The archives are full of tips. One thing, run your sensitivity at 6 to 6.5 until you get used to the machine, Garrett coils are ultra sensitive. Run your threshold at a very faint hum. Centering the target is critical with GTI's to get the correct readings and pinpoint the target. WAtch the signal strength indicator and it will tell you when the target is centered. Pinpoint on Garretts is dead on. Good luck.

Hi Dan. The GTI 2500 is a great machine, a great coin finder and a really good relic hunter. I suggest you run the machine in coins mode for the first several hours with the tones turned on. This way, you will get comfortable with the sounds, the pinpointing, imaging etc while still digging coins and of course some trash too. That true all metal mode is fantastic for places where deep coins are known to exist, and there isn't too much trash. Targets still read with the correct conductivity. As a rule, you run the sensitivity as high as you can before the machine becomes unstable.

One thing that is a "MUST", is that you have to be dead center over a a target to get an accurate sizing and depth. The ability to get comfortable with this machine takes time, so go out and hunt often and have fun! The better finds will come too soon enough. when you get your machine, don't hesitate to ask for more help, as there are many GTI 2500 users on this forum.

And congratulations on getting a top of the line machine.

The screen info is not 100% accurate (no brand is) BUT after a while of use, you will start being able to understanding what it is really telling you and your finds (and rejects) will improve. Best of Hunting!

Hi Dan, the 2500 is a great and powerful machine. I have had one for several years now and love it. I sold my first one and ended up buying another one. I love hearing that belltone and seeing that coin sized target! Uncle Willy was right on the pinpointing....it is dead on. It does take a little practice, but a few hours of operating it's great!! The new coils are sensitive also. You'll love this forum....lots of great people with all kinds of knowledge.

Thanks for the input with what Gary told me that should get me started . Missouri ground don`t have alot of the minerals that some of you have to deal with.Actually pretty mild compared to alot of places.I hope when im relic hunting ill be able to crank it up but for coin and ring hunting sounds like it doesnt need cranked to get down between the 6 ta 9 inch areas that alot of detectors dont seem to like very well. Wich is good for me hehehe
Getting excited wife just getting irratated lol its all i have talked about for last couple days. Think i better set back and twiddle thumbs before I drive her up a wall.
Any way thanks for the input and im shure ill have more questions within 2 or 3 hours after i read manuel and fly out the door in 30 something degree weather to try it out.
{sharpens hatchet just in case grounds freezes}
Short of death or dimemberment nothing going to stop me from trying out a new detector hehe.

HEHE she likes me to go metal detecting. She goes through everything after i clean it for years and has many rings. First thing she asks me when I come back {find anything good hun}would guess she has about 50 or 60 silver, gold, and gold with dimonds in her collection , she has gotten from me metal detecting over the last 12 years. She just gets tired of me talking about going is all hehe.
I`m really chomping at the bit to go over my old hunts and see if I can find anything deeper than what the old bandido 2 has already cleaned out.
Got some new spots, some pre civil war homes that I dont think they have ever let anyone on yet so i`ll go in with the tesoro and clean out all the top junk and go back over it with the 2500 and try to get all the goodies.Hope that works for me and if not,I`ll have fun being the first one on the property if nothing else hehe.
Thanks again for the help guys

If you go through the trash, consider using the GTI but raising the stock coil abt. 6"; Shorten the control rod. You will still get plenty of depth and have the twin benefits of imaging (have search image enabled) and a more narrow detection field. ...Willy.

sounds like that would be good practice learning the machine Ill give that a try thanks. Who said ya cant teach an old dog new tricks hehe

GOOD DAY!! i was wonderin if you have anything that can help me about the treasure hound with eagle eye pinpointing. the garrett gti 2500 is a great detector, but im having problems with the treasure hound, specially with its signal stability.it seems the signal goes wild everywhere i put it.do you anything that can help me???tnx
