GTI 2500: What settings and coil would you use for gold nugget hunting??

Hello and thanks for reading.
What coil (I have both 9 and 12.5 inch imaging coils), and what settings would you use to pick up nuggets?
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom. I have a 2500 also and want to try it out later this year on Gold. I am still learning the machine myself. I have been using the GTA 1000 for a couple a years. Use All Metal mode for sure. I think i would use the 5x10 Scorcher. The new catalog says it is a DD coil ,good for gettin through the ground minerals. The 4.5 may work ok but i`m not sure. So i hope the more experienced help out here so i can get some good answers too. There are some great people on here and they have helped me a lot. Hope this helps a little bit. Have fun ,Bob.

I've never used one for nugget hunting, but if I had the chance, I think I'd use the 12.5 imaging coil in all metal mode and dig any signal that was above the first two notches on the iron side.
I understand the 2500 doesn't get the flour gold because it's scan frequency is too low, but I'm sure someone has successfully used a 2500 searching for nuggets, even though it's not truely a gold machine.
Hopefully whoever has had that success will respond here also.

If using the GTI 2500 for prospecting in the higher mineralised soils, I would definitely be using the 10" x 5" DD coil. This coil was designed in consultation with the Garrett engineer and myself. It was designed on field testing in the high mineralised soils of Australia, as the other imagining coils would overload on our high mineralised soils.
Our mineralised soils can vary from high to low mineralisation within 12", so using the middle tracking speed is quite advantagous. If the soil mineralisation is constant, which I believe happens a lot in the US, then ground balance the unit first and then change to lock or slow track.
Hopefully this helps out.
Regards,
Phil
