GTI 2500 vs. GTP 1350

I've been toying with the idea of selling my GTI 2500 and all the accessories I have for it and using a little over half of that money to get a GTP 1350. I use the 5x10 elliptical on the GTI now about 75% of the time so I'm not really using the imaging near like I once did. I'm just hoping to hear some ideas from some of you knowledgable people regarding what I'd really be losing / gaining from such a trade.:wiggle:

Anxious to hear your thoughts....

You won't lose too much, some depth, no all metal, and all the features the 2500 has over the 1350. But if you mostly hunt coins and such you'll hardly notice the difference and it will be lighter and take a wider variety of coils and still profile. It's really quite a versatile machine. I have a 2500 along with most of the other Garretts and haven't used it in ages.

I know it probably sounds a little silly, but it's kind of hard thinking about retiring the old girl, when she was the one who really got me seriously into this hobby. But now the 2500's mostly limited to competition hunts with the 5x10 elliptical and some coinshooting when I go to older parks.

My ghost town expeditions are usually spent with my DFX  (No throwing stones now!!!). Modern parks and sandboxes are handled with the Ace 250. I was really disappointed when Mary P. at Garrett told me they had no plans to make the 5x10 for either the Ace 250 or the GTP 1350. Not only do I use the 5x10 for competition - it's darn hard, if not impossible, to beat at handling seriously mineralized ground.

One more question: What are your thoughts on the 1350 as a competition machine?

Thanks for everything thus far!

I would think it would work well but think the 250 would do better due to its lightning fast response and recovery if speed is of the essence. As versatile as the 2500 is it would be a shame to retire the old bag. :) Garrett hasn't retired it yet and it's been around a day or two. I field tested one of the first way back as I did with one of the first 2000's.

I have the 2500 and the ACE 250. I have used them side by side on several occasions and find the following differences. With the ACE I find myself digging everything because it doesn't have the imaging feature. Therefore I dig a lot more trash with the ACE. With the 2500 and the imaging feature I can eliminate a lot of targets that I know from experience is trash. As far as a pure coin shooter, the ACE is almost magic. I can find coin after coin after coin with very little effort due to it's light weight. The 2500 will seek out deeper targets and is a lot slower to operate because you have to make some decisions based on your ability to communicate with the machine and it is a lot heavier although it balances really well with the standard coil. Although I have the Stinger coil for both detectors I use it almost exclusively with the ACE. I use it for going around the edge of metal structures such as metal buildings and fences. It also does very well checking the edging of concrete slabs or sidewalks that have rebars. I find a lot of quarters along these edges. Retire my 2500? No way, it's old reliable and I would feel naked without it! If it does everything the new 1350 does and then some, why would I need the 1350? Although I use Garrett detectors exclusively I do feel they are getting behind in technology and need to do some research and engineering, especially in the field of multi frequency technology. Whether there's any advantage to it or not, that's what makes the Whites and Mine lab so attractive to buyers of top line detectors. JIM
