GTI 2500 Question

New member
I have been out 2 or 3 times with the GTI and I am having pinpointing problems......don't know if I'm just out of practice or if the coil is different. I used to have a GTI 2500 and used it extensively; however it had the old white coil. I sold it about 18 months ago and have not used one until a week ago. This one has the black coil. Does it pinpoint different?......or am I just out of practice?!?
Bill

The black coil pinpoints the same as the whie one, in fact I find that it pinpoints better. You might be out of practice? Try some backward pinpointing. Just put a coin on the ground and pinpoint it. Now see where it centers best. Just about the same process as clamping a rifle, shooting at a target then looking through the sights to see how they line up.

Yes it does. It pinpoints off the front center tip of the inside oval on the coil. Just move the coil side to side until you've centered the target then drag the coil straight back until the instant the signal stops. The target will be under the front center tip of the inside oval or slightly behind that point if the coin is deep.

Centering is critical with Garretts. Make sure you move all the way off the target, press pinpoint then move back over the target and center it. Should then be right under the little hole on the center of the coil.

I was able to test the pinpointing on the GTI today. It is right on. So I guess the problem was operator! I'm going to have to practice, practice again. Thanks for the help Bill and John.

There was a trick with the old white coil where you pinpoint as you describe noting depth, then release the button and push again to get it dead center. This was back in 2001? It worked great. Is this not necessary anymore?
