GTI 2500 question

Received my GTI a couple of days ago and I've been pouring over the manual. I have a question; is it possible to work in a say a jewelry mode and still employ the salt elimination function? I'm thinking no based upon what i've read.

In salt mode, study the black squares under each icon on the screen. Switch to salt mode, and notice the differences. You have the ability to run coins with salt mode, however, you may have to turn down the sensitivity and/or notch out some squares to get it running stable in motion discriminate.

And another option is to ground balance the GTI in true all metal mode, and see where every target ID ends up. And finally, unlike a lot of "turning knob" type metal detectors, which actually lose depth as the discrimination knob is advanced, the GTI 2500 does not lose any depth as the discrimination is increased. This same feature is also the same on the all GTI's, GTP, GTA's, ACE Series and the AT Pro.

Thanks John, you have been very helpful. I realized after I posted this as a GTI 2500 question but I actually purchased the GTI 2000. In your honest opinion, do you think it would make sense to have Garrett upgrade my machine? They have quoted me a price of $350 which also includes a new coil. Garret also informed me that I cannot use the PROformance coil on the 2000 which I find very surprising since it's compatible with the 2500 and 1500. I'm assuming that this is due to it being a discontinued model. I'm pretty much going to be using my machine mostly for dry sanding. Thanks again and I look forward to your response.

That is an excellent price by the way, with an imaging coil thrown it. The GTI 2000 is also a very good detector. If you are mostly hunting dry sand, you should do well with the detector the way it is. I do often use the sniper coil on my GTI 2500. It gets very close to metal and does well in very trashy places, such as the cut along the beach, where there are usually lots of targets like pull tabs and bottle caps.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

What's the best program to deal with the pull tabs and bottle caps? The beaches I work on are full of bottle caps so anything you can share would be very much appreciated.

Coins is a pretty good program. Remember, you can notch out any junk target so you don't hear it. You can even make your own program doing this by notching out junk targets in YOUR area and keeping the audio for good targets. This is real handy, as it allows you to use these types of notching abilities built into Garretts in any country as so compensate for different conductivities with the clad.

I don't know if I would spend that much bucks on the first GTI made myself...as far as dealing with tabs and bottle caps do some testing as the notching abilities are excellent...Do remember especially in the tabs reject a tab and you may reject a nice gold ring so your call....
