GTI 2500 Owners

I've had my 2500 for just under a year now...though I just dusted it off from our very long winter and I'm curios about the settings that people use on their 2500.

I generally hunt in discriminate zero mode with the sensitivity at default. (9.0) I sometimes bump it up to 9.5 or 10.0 but find it seems to false much more beyond 9.0

I know it depends on soil conditions but I'm curious if this is the norm out there?

In the all metal mode i can't seem to see the difference in changing the trac speeds (auto slow, medium, fast)....does anyone use the all metal mode much?

What settings do you use?

The all metal mode is very very sensitive that's for sure.

Any and all comments welcome.
Thanks in advance

Gabby

Well I am still very new to my 2500 so I AM STICKING TO THE COINS MODE for the first 10 hours. Did test it yesterday in all metal with a very small gold nugget and it sound off real good.

Wow! I only keep my sens at around 6, 6.5 or MAYBE 7 at the MOST. Zero discriminate mode is cool. I'll use that sometimes. I hunt in jewelry mode alot, usually in tot lots & parks. I have a custom mode that I use at the beach where I'm looking mainly for gold jewelry. In custom mode I have everything below foil notched out and everything from just below penny and up notched out. Gold jewelry will fall within this range. I also hunt in all metal alot because it goes so deep and I just discriminate by using the meter/LCD indication. Anyway, that's just how I hunt with my GTI 2500. Made some pretty good finds over the years. I have every coil ever made for it including the 5" EXcellerator which I love:biggrin: Happy Hunting!

In disc mode I usually hunt in zero mode with sensitivity 7-9. Except with DD coils I crank it all the way up or between 10-12 sensitivity. I like hearing all the tones.

All metal mode is deep. I hunt w it on 9 usually w stock coil. with 12.5 coil 6-8 sens. DD coils same as above.

If you are in hot ground you will see the difference in threshold with the different speeds of auto-trac. Actually when bad ground like prospecting or relic hunting it is a good idea to use manual grnd bal as it is more stable when you set it and lock it in.

But when I use all metal I have it set on fast most the time when not using manual grnd bal.

AND thanks to you I have the operating freq set to its highest freq...which is the lowest setting to be selected.

I use my all metal mode in old sports fields, where I know there are deep silvers. In regular sports fields, I use the true all metal mode only if there is not too much trash. When relic hunting in the woods, I hunt in relics or jewelery modes. In Edmonton, I can run my machine 1 -2 notches from wide open for sensitivity. The machine adjusts itself to your hunting swing speed (within reason) so you should find it quite stable after a couple of minutes if you also are consistent with your swing speeds.

I've never used all metal mode much as it seems just way too sensitive for me. Do you ever do the manual ground balance and where does your setting end up at? Do you start from the default setting?

Thanx

I have every coil ever made for it including the 5" EXcellerator which I love:biggrin: Happy Hunting!

Does any of the other coils allow the imaging to work?

Which other coil if your favorite?

If I was to get only 1 other coil..which one would you recommend...I hunt mostly fresh water beaches and parks.

Thanx

Hey Gabby I keep coins and relics in the disc. modes cause you can go back and forth with them with just a push of a button. I keep my sens at 6.5 to 7. I use to run at 9 or 10 for years but thanks to uncle willy turned it down because i was getting alot or falseing. I have grown use to a lot of chatter in my ears that i dont get to much any more in coin or relics so i sometimes go to all metal just to hear some chatter. i do know i still get good depth at lower sens because i have dug coins and pull tabs at 6 to 8 inch. the only problem with all metal is no bell tone, bummer

:clapping:Thank to everyone for all the great tips!!

Keep them coming

I think I'm gonna turn down the sensitivity a notch or two, in both all metal and disc.

Oh, hey buddy. Just caught your question. The only coils that show imaging are the stock 9.5" and the 12.5". The other ones will show depth as indicated on the lower scale, but no sizing info. Oh yeah and that 5" EXcellerator doesn't give a depth reading, but it does go deeeeep and is double D so it handles hot ground quite well. Anyway, about which coil I would suggest you get, my favorite coil for the GTI 2500 is the 5"x10" Scorcher coil because it is lightweight and you get more ground coverage at depth due to the double D configuration. Well, best of luck to ya whichever coil ya choose. Man, they're all good and fun to use. Happy Hunting!
