GTI 2500 Bi level audio

Hello everybody...New to the forum, and I have a little question.
The first MD that I ever bought was a Master Hunter ADS-1, way back in the early eighties... Loved it.(just had it refurbished by the factory, BTW) The second MD that I ever bought was a GTI 2500. Love it even more than the first one! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Read the little manual about a dozen times. Watched the video (really nice touch) at least 10 times. Took Mr. Garrett's advice, and used it in Disc. coins mode for the first 10 hrs.(actually ran the factory batteries down two notches in this mode)Bench tested it, pushed all the buttons, scrolled all through the menu...
Very nice unit. One thing is bugging me. (it is not preventing me from coinshooting) The Bi-level audio function does not seem to work. I cannot hear a difference with this feature selected no matter what is passed under the coil. I've tried it in Disc mode, and All metal, am I doing something wrong? Any info will, without a doubt, be very muchly appreciated. To everyone, the best of luck. The Green Team Rocks!!!

I feel your problem may be due to operator being unfamiliar with a new unit.Knowing it does not work in all metal sort of leads me that way. Might call Garrett or talk to a club member or someone familiar to help you out.Another factor it might not be working. Actually your unit is sort of a mini computer and holding in the power button for five seconds will reboot it and may also solve the problem. I would bet its operator error and doing one of the above should help you out. your unit is actually user friendly but will take a bit to get used to its facets...Good luck with your new unit...certainly quite different than your older machine and it will take time to become proficient with it..

I don't have a 2500, but I DO use a gta 1000 that has the bi-level audio and one can see the difference it makes in the audio response immediately.
Iron etc. will give a very low tone, coins a higher tone (no belltones) and small, shallow gold rings will generally give a two-tone response kinda' like a seal's bark. I like this setting for hunting lady's rings in trashy sites with a sniper coil, I can actually tell a ring from thin foil by audio response, even though they might meter identically on the visual display.
Run it over a nail, and then a dime, if there is NO difference in audio response in the bi-level mode, then your machine likely needs to be repaired.
The bi-level setting gives you a little more information than the other audio settings and can be a useful tool for finding small gold. Be advised that wads of foil and chunks of can-slaw can also yield the "seal's-bark" response... these targets will often read "A" sized too, just like a small ring (I use a 1500 also, so I have some experience with imaging).
You will still have to dig some trash to find gold, but you can leave most of the thin foil in the ground once you learn how it sounds compared to denser targets.

Weigh a gold ring( need a jewelers scale) and a tab ot piece of foil that mimics it and you will see the gold ring is much heavier. Therefore thru practice you can hear a different audio for each. Certainly not a fixed science but you can surely cut down the odds...Good headphones and practice really helps...
Glad someone else uses the audio plus the meter and also glad he don't hunt in my local parks..

Okay, I finally figured it out...The reason that the Bi-level didn't seem to be working is that I had it in D-coins mode. Switched to D-zero and guess what? I heard the two very distinctly different tones. I feel better now. Thanks to everyone who responded.
