GTI 2500 and beyond

Could anyone tell me if the 2500 has undergone any slight or even significant upgrades in the last 5 years. Also is there any rumor to a GTI3500 or the like? It seems to me that the DSP could be upgraded in that it is 7 year old technology or even older as it went through years of development.

I heard Garrett put in a new chip, to improve performance in saltwater sand and mineralized soil. Also, the newer coils are much sturdier, and perhaps a tiny tad deeper.

I just wanted to report that I sent my GTI 2500 in to Garrett to be re-calibrated for the new 9.5 coil. I sent it with my old white, 8.5". coil and when I got it back they had replaced that coil with the new 9.5" and a new, black, composite lower stem. They, apparently, put in a new chipset. Prior to this, I could not set my coil down onto a cinder track around a football field without the detector going bonkers but, now, I can lay it right down on the cinders and it acts normal. As far as depth increase, it might detect, slightly, deeper. I, recently, dug up a walking liberty half at 7" and a barber quarter at 8".
The detector did register those depths, correctly.

hello,
Sent mine in today to garrett. $120 for chip/new 9.5 pro coil and shipping. Coil alone is 120 at discount so i figured with set up and testing, it was a good deal. I had the old white coil and underneath in the curves of the "D" shaped openings it had cracks. The cracking is one of the reasons garrett offers the upgrade. New pro coil is much sturdier and being epoxy filled is waterproof. Tech also mentioned that the newer coils were better against heavily mineralised soils as is the new dsp chip. Coil upgrade alone is at 40% off.
Thanks for heads up about chip and coil availability.
