GTI 2500 and AT Pro out detecting a North American Forest in Australia

Sounds funny that subject title but in the 1960s in Tasmania, a island in Australia, they turned some of the farms into forests and put up trees from North America to see if they could be used/grown here.
Now days the forests are farmed by loggers but also they setup areas for picnics and camping as well, so is a really different looking area compared to other places in Australia.
I swinging a GTI 2500 and a AT Pro together on hunts these days, picked up the 12 or more year old GTI about 2 months ago but i just starting to use it as i have been busy moving family and pets 3700 kilometres across Australia to a small island off the south east coast called Tasmania. So sorry about no post for a while but been very busy organising this since start of June.
Now back on the topic, this spot i found today is only minutes from home, 6km away. Has the Douglas Fir trees, Redwoods as well trees from America growing in, the picnic grounds are all over the forest but i did only hit the first one i found and both detectors finding coins with easy.

Nice video, and the bit if history also. Beautiful place , with coins. Thanks

Looks like a nice place to detect.

Would have been funny if you found all American coins... I should send you a couple handfuls of clad to
bury there for future detectorists. Imagine how puzzling that would be.

went back today, the video is uploading now, will post it tomorrow. Found some more coins and i added at each of the video a short bit of the driving in and out of the place video.

Nice to see you are back into the swing of things.................on the South Island to..........that will be a change from the West.

I don't like to rain on your parade but I think you need to clean up your target recovery technique in grassed and lawned areas.
When digging shallow targets there is no need to remove such large plugs and in such a messy manner. Maybe improving your pinpointing ability would help a lot.
When digging in lawns and grassed parks and picnic grounds all I ever need is a 4 inch pocket knife and a 6 inch probe plus I can pinpoint to whithin an inch of the target using up to 10 inch coils.
I donot recover targets in these areas that are deeper than the length of the probe. Big holes = big plugs = big mess when the mowers go over the lawns the plugs are ripped out = some very cranky rangers = more bad rep towards metal detectorists.

Its not grass, is mostly moss/lichen and weed. i do fill the holes in and the little bit of dirt around the hole from my stomping the plug down, does vanish overnight when the snow/dew or rain settles in.
My pinpoint is very accurate to within a inch on the target, just some of these coins down 5 to 8 inches!! only time it gets messy is when you have two targets in the hole, ie a bit of junk and a coin, then i have to expand the hole!

Lucky they dont use mowers here, they have native animals grazing on the field each night, will video the manure that covers the field next time and if i there at dusk will get some of the Wallabies on the video.

Well I guess you can get away with it in tassie but if I dug holes as large as those in your vid over here in Canberra and was sprung by the rangers I would be likely be fined and the detector confiscated.
I guess the ground is always wet in Tassie and so the grass root system can recover quickly wheras here it is dry ground with just a few inches of top soil and rapid run off after rain.
I have removed well over a thousand coins and jewelery items from Canberras parks and gardens without leaving any trace of my ever having been there but now I leave these areas alone for the newbies to make a mess in and concentrate my detecting on the beaches where the digging is easier and targets are everywhere.

the area of that field is used to ride horses on it, you can keep the horse on it while camping and they do show jumping at times on it. camping people put up tents and do put up fires on the field.

the horse's leaving a lot of horse tread holes around and the camping area is littered a lot useless people not putting there rubbish into the bins.

kimbucktwo sucks, people left it as its focussed on one man, 35 people left that forum in past three months due to a issue

Every forum have people that want to be on the tallest soap boxes and airbags inflated to capacity taking up heaps of space in order to soar high.
My glasses don't focus well up towards that altitude............so I treat it like driving on an unsealed country road in the wet season and steer clear of the largest pot holes as they usually do no more than get you in a bog.
Whatever............... enjoy the south Island.
