GTI 2500 12 in imaging coil Question

New member
Anyone with experience using the 2500 12" imaging coil? I have had mine near two years and use several other coils but have never had this one on the machine. I needed it today for some clean ground in an old area to try and get some depth. When I installed it if I hold it about 5 inches above the ground it works but any closer and any contact with any targets gets this growl phone ringing like an overload. I have the cable going over first rap and when I put the 5 by 7 coil back on all works fine but I cant get the depth I want with it. I have had the problem with faulty coils causing simular results but is there any other answer? I hate to have to return it, especially if its just something Im overlooking. I only have a week to work this area before there will be buildings going up on it. Are the imaging coils more common with problems than std coils?
Thanks for the info

It sounds like you may have a faulty coil. It shouldn't do that. if the other coils work well, and you are not near power lines or have any large metal piece under the coil, it's probably the coil. :(

Thanks John; I was thinking the same but I hated to send it back if I didnt have to. I have a campground resort place up the road a mile that has just changed hands and is at least 75 years old and the new owners have had it cleared off in spots for remodeling with a loader. I got permission to detect all I want but the nice cleared level spots will soon be covered with new cabins and a house. The loader just cleared the weeds brush and flatened the area some and I know there got to be goodies waitin down there. Well guess Ill just have to take the 5 by 7 and put it on all metals and give it a whirl and hope for the best.

Hi Bill
Sorry I didn't get back to you last night but the toothpicks holding my eyes open finally gave out.
Yes from Marys past instructions on problems the fist thing I tried was reboot. Then I turned the sens down to 5.5 or 6 and it made no dif. so I went through this agian and I pulled off the Sun ray probe and triple checked the coil cable making it over and up good ant tight away from the coil eliminating all the possibles I could think of and GRRRRRR again and again. Wife thought maybe the cable from the sunray could cause problems hanging so with it gone, completely removed from the machine same results. Replace the 5 by 10 small elip coil and whamo great , no problems just like old times. Guess it will have to go with MR BROWN today and see the wizzards in the white coats.
Another quick question for you tho on the 2500 with a small elip coil 5 by 7 or 10 I think how would you run it to get the best you could out of it for old deep coins and jewl. in an area with and with out trash ??? Really wont have time to get the coil replaced before the spots are covered for the next 50 years>
Thanks for a great forum
