GTI 1500

I am new to the hobby.Just got my 1st detector,a CZ-20(Sorry).Before I ordered this, nobody I knew had a detector. Now that mine showed up,a buddys brother sent over a GTI 1500 to play with.Taking it on vacation to Florida next week for the wife to try.I'm gonna look online for a manual for this thing. But since neither of us have used anything but toy types,Is there a basic,no-frills setting for her to use?We will be on the beach, saltwater for vacation, and when we get home will use around shoreline of Mississippi, and freshwater lakes, some old houses, etc.Any advice you can give on this machine will be greatly appreciated. Also, how old is this machine?I've remember as a kid garrett was a good machine. The machine says GTI 1500,but the battery tray with the phone jack says GTA,any ideas?

Thanks,
Kirk

Hold the on button for at least 10 seconds, which will put the machine in default settings. Now, I suggest coin mode for simple coin hunting, which will also sound off on silver rings and most (but not all) gold rings. Use this KISS setting and you should find plenty with few problems. Always try to be as centered over the target as possible for pinponting and Imaging. Below Is a link to copy the manual:

http://www.garrett.com/manuals/GTI-1500.pdf

And good luck to both of you. :)

John,
I went to the garrett site earlier tonite and found the manual.Saw the part about resetting to default mode.Definitely will use the K.I.S.S. theory going, due to the fact I married a blonde,LOL(Lord,I apologize........)Thank You very much for responding.

Use coin mode - run sensitivity at 6 or 6.5 and no more until you are familiar with the machine. Make sure the cable is snugly wound and the first wind going over the top of the shaft, or just tape the cable straight up the shaft for a foot or so. Scan slow as this is not a rapid response/recovery machine. Pinpointing and centering the target is critical for all readings to be correct. Use the signal strength indicator to center your target properly, which will be under the center hole in the coil.

You'll have a lot of fun with this machine as it's one of the best coinshooters made. It's an easy machine to use but has a slight learning curve so just take your time and practice the centering and pinpointing. Good luck.

Thanks Bill,
For now gonna set it as you and John recommended(default),and let the wife run with it.Would you recommend the tape method or the wrap method on the shaft? Thanks for all the help !

Kirk

Whatever your choice on the cable. I and others taped ours but if you just keep it snug so it doesn't wiggle it will be fine.

Found a way to secure the cable!Had some 2" wide sew-on from my boat top.I cut into pieces 1/2" x 2".and it works great.
