GTI 1500

Hello All,

Just went out and bought a GTI 1500 today. Should be here in a week or so. I'm like a little kid waiting on Christmas morning :detecting:

I have the Ace 250, and several other detectors, Fisher Excel, and The Eldo from Tesorro. I like them all. I had a bad accident a little over a year ago, and I had to really watch the weight of the machine I was using.

I know the GTI 1500 is a little heavy but I also know that it can be used with the battery pack as a hip mount. Which will make it alot liter.

I primarily coin hunt in ghost towns and parks, and old homestead areas. I'm not much for relics but am trying to develope my skills in that area.

Anyway, I know I can get long winded. I was hoping to have some of you that have owned the GTI 1500 for a while and use it often could tell me your thought's on this unit.

I let a GTA 1000 get away from me several years ago. I used it for several years and loved it. I'm hoping this unit will make a good replacement.

How useful do you find the size of the target in your recovery information? I think it will be useful to stop a guy from digging a coke can, but beyond that I'm not sure.

Jim, the GTI 1500 is a truly great coin hunter. I think that you made a wise choice in getting this machine, considering that you are primarily focused on coins. The standard stock coil gets good depth, and in real trashy areas, the 4 1/2" coil works well. You can notch out all the specific junk items on this machine without losing any depth. So, if you want to just concentrate on coins, make your own program or use one of the included default ones. The Imaging (sizing) works best in the top 6 inches. For best accuracy, you "HAVE" to be centered over the target. Tiny pieces of buckshot size at "A". "B" size targets are the ones to focus on and dig.

I have had the 1500 since it came out and after my first hunt, it was obvious that this machine went much deeper then my GTA 500 and was much more sensitive and stable. I have used the 1500 with great results in parks, beaches and in the woods. I have never really hunted old homesteads or fields, but would like to one of these days. The GTI 1500 also is great for pin-pointing. By using the combination of imaging and target probability on the screen, you should do very well. Just remember, as with all machines that there is a learning curve and that it takes time to really learn what the machine is telling you. Good luck with that 1500 and keep us posted!

HDJ,
Congratulations! I am still relatively (starting 3rd yr) new to detecting. I purchased a mid low end detector for my first one. While I was using the first, and learning (still am) I did a lot of detector specifications research, and came up with the 1500. I have had it since November 04 and it is a great machine. If you learn the machine, I am sure there will be no disappointment. John (Edmonton) has certainly praised it enough over the times I have read his posts. I really like the imaging, and have found it to be helpful many times. It is a well constructed, good machine in my opinion. One draw back that I have heard others say, and I agree with,is that it has a slower recovery time than say the 250. I hope you still have some fingernails left by the time it gets to your house, but then again, you won't need em to D-tect.
Keep us posted of your finds.
