GTI 1500 vs GTI 1550

I found a GTI 1550 listed for sale. I don't see anything on the Garrett web site about a GTI 1550 so I assume that it is a store model. Anyone else seen this?

These sites have it as well.

i just brought a gti 1500. those sites are full of it. there is no 1550. i did notice that one of those sites had the old 1500 with the white image coil and called it a 1500, and the one with the new image coil a 1550. there is no 1550.

I sent Amazon.com an email asking about it (GTI 1550). I told them that unless Garrett had surprised us, there was no 1550. Haven't heard back from them.

Here's the response I got back from Amazon:

Thank you for contacting Amazon.com.

We're sorry, but we are unable to check the physical details of an item for you. Our information is limited to what the publishers and manufacturers supply to us, and all of this information appears on our web site.

If you wish to contact the manufacturer directly with your question, here is the contact information for Garrett Metal Detectors:

You put a lot more effort into that than I would have. At first I thought that it was an upgrade to the 1500. Then I thought it might have been a store model like Bounty Hunter does with Radio Shack. But now I think that it was a typo on information sent by Garrett to the on-line stores that merely drop ship every thing to their customers.

Hello,

Garrett had advised on my GTI1500 purchase that they were to contact Sportsmans Guide and advise of the typo. SG apparently keyed in 1550 when they uploaded the new 550 or 1350 into their system. SG had to advise me that there was no such thing before selling. You think that they would change and correct their site. BR
