GTI 1500 issues

I took my Sand Shark and GTI 1500 to the beach this past weekend, hoping to do a little detecting. Surf was really crashing, making it impossible to use the Sand Shark in the water. I moved to the dry sand and pulled out my GTI, only to discover it wasn't hitting on ANYTHING. Curious, I pulled off my 14k ring and tested it. Nothing. I then threw down assorted change. Still nothing. Tried resetting the machine by pressing and holding the reset button. Again, nothing.

I'm new to the 1500 so I figured I'd come to the experts. Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like I need to send it in for servicing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Thanks for the responses so far. I guess you could say I air-tested it. I placed coins on top of the sand and ran the coil over them and got zero response. The display readings did not move and I received no "beep" with either the various coins OR the 14k gold mens wedding band. I tried both preset coin mode and preset jewelry mode over these test items. Neither modes sounded off or gave an indication on the display that anything was under the coil. Thanks for your interest in helping me. You guys ROCK!!! Part of the reason I love this hobby is the wonderful people that are so willing to share their passion and knowledge with us newbies.
