GTI-1500 double D coil

Has anyone used a double D coil on their 1500 and if so how does it seem to work ? They say its suppose to detect deeper coins.

I use the DD coil and love it on my 1500. I hunt a lot of iron infested relic sites and the DD is great on SEPERATING a good target from iron. You have to slow your sweep speed down and maybe check your target from different angles. I can't say for sure if there is a depth difference. I suppose at a clean site with little trash your stock coil may go deeper, but for most of my sites the DD rules. Txquest

It doesn't detect any deeper than a concentric of similar size excepot in highly mineralized ground. I have a field test on Garrett's 10x14 DD over at losttreasure.com

I love using the 10x5 DD coil. It's tones are more animated than with the standard coil.By that I mean that there is a greater variation in the width of the tones, which makes telling different targets of the same conductivity easier to tell apart. Anything from screw cap and bigger gives a fully rounded tone, while targets that are smaller, like coins, give a size proportionally shorter tone. You do need to whip the coil over the found target though to hear it though.
The recovery speed is also fantastic. I used this coil on an utterly crown cap infested site 16 months ago and pulled up over a $100 with it in a single day. The standard coil wouldn't have had a prayer of working at all there.

Oh yeah, that 5"x10" double "D" is my favorite search coil on any machine.:garrett::detecting:
I like the 10"x14" as well but it's HEAVY. I need to use a bungee with that one.
Yeah, a double "D" search coil will only give better depth in highly mineralized ground as compared to a concentric. The main benefit of using a double"D" searchcoil is that it covers more ground at depth than a concentric search coil. Ground coverage at depth is about the same from toe to heel of a double "D" search coil, where as a concentric search coil's detection pattern goes down in a cone shape and only covers an inch or so at depth.

Here is a link to a Garrett spec sheet on search coils that should explain it alot better than I ever could.
