GTAX 550 VS CX Plus

I have a GTAX 550 on the way, and already own a CX Plus. I have found since I purchased an armrest for the CX, it is a really comfortable machine now. Can somebody tell me which is the better machine for coinshooting/ jewellery hunting in parks, and a little beach work. I will end up only keeping one of these machines. (Unless I can talk the boss/ wife around). I am new to this grat pastime, and would appreciate any comments.

I would definitely keep both. The CX has a true all metal mode, which the 550 doesn't have. The 550 is a great coinshooter, however, there are times when you require just a little more depth, and the CX will fill that niche. I was in the same situation, had both the CX and the GTA 500. I sold the Cx, and really regret it to this day!
 
Thanks John. Being a newbie to this hobby, it is appreciated to get an honest opinion. I couldn't quite afford a GTAX 750 which I would have liked, but I have been told there is very little difference between the 550 and 750. Did you or anyone find the CX Plus a good coinshooting and jewellery machine? I can't find many postings or comments on the CX Plus machines.

Peter, the CX is a little slower on target ID. It does find coins and jewellry just fine. Where I really found it useful, was in old school yards. I would use the all metal mode which would alert me to some targets too deep for my GTA 500 to find. I would dig all deep targets, which got me a lot of old buttons, rings and some coins. Also, just by swinging that machine in all metal mode would show me where most of the targets were in a given area. That is GOOD information to have, as you can now work that area slowly and carefully. Usually you find good targets there, as some people just by-pass these areas. You are asking some good questions Peter. I'll put $$$ on you for turning out to be a great hunter <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">.

I would try to keep both. The 550 is a great coinshooter but the CX has the edge in features and strength, especially with all metal. It just depends on what and where you plan on hunting the most. Tell momma nobody should have only one detector.
I'm down to about seven from a one time total of 12. Have a friend who has every detector he ever purchased. Think he has 22 or so. No one detector will do it all and the more you have the better your odds are.
