GTAx 550 queries

Hi All,
I have a used 550 i got yesterday.
Seems a good machine - some questions I have :
- Is the gnd tracking preset or automatic on the 550? I assume automatic, as you have to pwr up 1 foot above gnd.
- had 1 funny occurrence when about 2/3 of the top row all "lit up" for 5 seconds... instead of 1 at a time - any ideas?
- also a few times pinpointing I had a large buzz everywhere when I hit pinpoint - this seemed to be area specific and was only happening in a few spots.... what happens if you hit pinpoint whilst over a target to the side?
any one have any comment?
thanks,
John

Not sure John, but definitly not user adjustable.

Again, only a guess, but sounds like interference or an overload (the buzz you referred to). You could try adjusting the sensitivity to 6.5 - 7.5 and redetect the same area.

This is typically a target overload - too much reflected signal for the detector to process. Good example is moving the detector over your digging knife or shovel while searching. You'll probably find an intact soda can that's fairly shallow, or some similar article if you dig the overload area. Raising the coil five or six inches may allow you to pinpoint the target (usually junk), but sometimes neat relics. e.g. old hatchet head or axe head etc.
Good luck! The 550 is a nice machine.

thanks for your reply - I am enjoying the unit so far!
