GTAX 1000 Coil

Can someone tell me if there is a better coil than the standard 8 1/2" Crossfire to use on this machine?
I love the 1000, but any advise to make things a little easier would be appreciated.
I am from Australia, and will look in the USA for purchasing any such coil, as they are just soooo expensive out here.
Cheers
Peter

I don't think there is a size in between the 4 1/2" and 8 1/2" coil. HH..BJ

I have the 4.5" coil that i use a lot for tight and trashy areas. Great little coil. I also have the 12.5 and the 10 x 14 DD coil besides the stock 8.5". The 10 x 14 is great for my mineralized soil and covers a lot of ground. All depends on your grond and type of detecting you do. Some guys have the Hothead coils which i have never used. Hope this helps.

12.5 Crossfire II, 4.5" Crossfire II, 14" x 10" Garrett, 10" x 5" Garrett, 5.5" Ferrett Coil from Kellyco. I have one of those coils that is brand new if you want to write to me. Hope this helps and the dealers on this forum should be able to help. They support this forum and we should support them also.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I also have the
4 1/2" Crossfire as well. Does the 14 x 10 DD perform much better than the standard 8 1/2" Crossfire? I have heard these are a really good coil, and will it fit an older GTAX 1000? If so, this will be the way I will go.
Thanks everyone, this is a great forum and I will look at buying from supporters of this forum if anyone can help.
Thanks Again

i got the 10 x 14 from Garrett used with a coil cover for half of list price. Have used it several times and i like the performance. In the mineralized ground it will go deeper than the stock coil. The detection path is 14" long and about 2" wide down the center with pinpointing off the front tip. It is heavy but i don`t mind that. I slide my battery pack out a little and it helps with the balance. Hope my 3 cents helps. Happy diggin. <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">

The DD will work no better than a concentric of equal size in normal ground, although it will give you more ground coverage. Where the DD shines is in highly mineralized conditions. You will have to check with Mary at Garrett to see if a particular coil fits your machine.

Hi Peter,im also from Aus & I use the GTAX 1000.Im lucky because when i bought mine 2nd hand it came with 3 coils, The Super Sniper 4 1/2in,5x10 Eliptical,12in,all for a bargain price from a good mate in S.A.
Peter have you tried The Gold Mining Center in SA,
ask for phil he will talk your ear off about the GTA Line, but very helpful,in a couple of months im getting the 10x14 DD for the GTAX1000,Phil is converting a old coil plug to suit the coil.
