GTA X 1000 powermaster coils

I have my old and trusty GTAx 1000 after all these years and have always had the stock 8 inch and the 4 inch sniper coil. Ive been looking into getting some newer coils and it looks like my only options are the 7x10 and the 10x14. I just need opinions on which would be better and fill more of a gap in my coil lineup. Thanks everyone!

You can run the coils you mentioned plus the 6 x 9 and 9 x 12 IF you have the correct connector on your coil plug. If you have the "M" pattern, you can plug it right in and away you go. If you have the older "X" pattern, you will have to replace the new "M" coil plug with the older "X" pattern ones.

Im just wondering what would be a more appropriate coil to get. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of either so i can decide which is better for any holes i might have in my current coil lineup

My favorite coil is the Ferrett coil that Hothead put out a few years ago. It's a 5" coil with a hole in the middle for easier pinpointing. You would have to find a used one and that would be tough, but maybe not impossible. It's a hot little coil!! Have you determined which pin pattern you have on your connector yet? If you have the "X", you'll have some soldering to do before any of the more modern coils will work for you.

Man, oh man, how I miss my old GTAx 1000.:nopity: Great machine.:garrett::detecting: I suggest getting that 10"x14" double "D" search coil. Great depth and ground coverage as well. Only thing is, it's gonna make your machine really front/nose heavy. Alot of guys use the bigger coils with no problem, but I always use a bungee/chest harness.
As far as that 7"x10" goes, alot o'guys prefer them, but if I had to choose between that and the old 8.5" Crossfire, I'd just stick with the old 8.5" Crossfire. It's lighter anyways.
My favorite is that old 5"x10" Crossfire double "D" search coil, but Garrett hasn't sold those in years and you'd be lucky to find one used.
Best of luck to ya'!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I just picked up a really nice used GTAX 1000 on Tuesday. Mine only came with the 8.5 crossfire coil. I called Garrett and was told that the Master Hunter coils will work. 7x10, 10x14 and 9x12 will also work with my particular machine but will have to change the coil plug. This detector might be for sale if anyone is interested.
