gta ultra 500

I'm new to detecting and just purchased a gta ultra 500. I'm confused about the audio setting. It seems to hum when I turn it up and then I turn it down unit the hum (background )goes away. Is that all there is to it? I thought it would give me different volumes when targets were detected but all target result in a LOUD beep. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

That's the audio threshold....some people like to hunt with no audio at all, while others like to hunt with some of the humming, just to make sure they didn't miss any targets. Charles suggests you detect with just a slight hum.

All that threshold does is establishes the audio for pinpoint and all metal if your detector has it.
