GTA 1000 Power Master

If the "Hot Head" coil is the 10" one, it will go deeper than the stock 8.5" Garrett coil only because of the size. Hot Head coils are sold by Kellyco out of Florida. The size of the coil makes it useful for large open areas without much trash, such as beaches, ball fields etc. The smaller the coil the better the pinpointing. Uncle Willy, myself and possibly others on this forum will be glad to help if you have other questions.

i have the original gta 1000 and it still is a great machine.as Paul said the ten inch coil is made by kellyco and it is a good coil although not a Garrett it pinpoints better than the 12 inch coil.i also have the oval coil that came with the machine but could not pinpoint good with it so i put the 8 inch coil on i also have the sniper coil that is good in trashy areas.garret also updated a chip in it which made the machine a lot more stable and the tech said extra depth.if you need extra coils call Garrett as they changed connectors with the introduction of the crossfire 11 coils but they work fine on the older machines as Garrett will send them with a connector thats fits. best of luck.

Thanks for all the replies. How do you know if your GTA 1000 PM has been updated? I would like to get an 8" coil for it too. Do you know of anyone who has a used one for sale?

you can check with Mary at Garrett. Email her at maryp@garrett.com. She can tell you if there are updates available for your machine.
As far as coils go you can post what you're looking for on the "Classified Forum" here along with other websites and ebay. The people on the MD'ing forums are more trustworthy than those on ebay. There is one guy that keeps changing names on Trerasure Depot, he did go by Terry Lamb. Not a good guy!
Oh yeah, if you can get a lower rod for each of your coils. It makes for a quick change over. You might want to get a 4.5" coil first as the Hot Head is close the Garrett 8.5" in size. You're looking for coils with the "Crossfire" lable.
Have your machine set for "Belltone" and "Coin" mode. Giving these hints in case you're a newbie not trying to tell you what to do.

Thankyou for all your help, I am going to ask Mary from Garrett if there is any upgrades for my machine. Is the bell tone only suppose to ring when you find a coin?

the signals from penny to the right of your display. Penny, dime, quarter, half and dollar. The new copper coated zinc-centered penny shouldn't. Don't ignore those tones and display squares below penny as that is where the Indian Head pennies and silver rings are found. It's also where the zinc'n Lincolns are found also. Use it in coin mode until you feel confident then you can notch out less with the cutom settings. Then you can "Dig everything and miss nothing". The treasures can come in the trash displays on your screen. Post up your finds so we can enjoy with you or offer help to get you more!

The audio boost amplifies your signals more for when you are seeking out those deep faint targets.
The threshold is the tone you hear when you're searching. You can adjust it to your liking, but you should be able to at least hear it slightly, otherwise you may miss out on the weaker signals.
