Last week I went down to Ga to see if I could call a turkey gobbler in for my son. To say that it rained would be a very large understatement. We did get to do a little turkey hunting and saw four birds. Positively identified two of them as hens. One of them was 12 feet from me. The other two would not come out from behind some brush so that we could get a positive Id on them even though I thought that I could see the red head of a gobbler on one of them.
Between rain showers I did manage to get in a little bit of detecting. I had previously worked my sons yard and found a few wheat back pennies so I hit it again. This time I found a 47, 60, 64 nickels, one toasted wheatie, and one 1952 Washington. Took the GT out to the farm where we were hunting and found a Rein Guide off a horse harness. I did not recognize what the Rein Guide was. My excuse, aside from old age, is that my Grandfather was the one who harnessed the horses. I only got to do things like plow, haul hay, etc.
Got home Sunday and Yesterday i went to a local park where I have been trying to reduce the clad infestation. Dug up another $9.45
in clad. That puts the total well in excess of $150.00 in clad that has come out of that park in the past year. I have only found one silver quarter and one silver ring in that park. The park is a relatively new park (less than 15 years old) but it gets thousands of visitors every year. It is a five ball field complex where youngsters play baseball. All those Grandparents, Moms, Dads etc make contributions to my finds list.
I had a blast yesterday. I had four little girls that were "Helping" me metal detect. They were having a blast using the pin pointer to locate targets after I found them with the GT. They thoroughly enjoyed helping me find coins. They were quick to retrieve the coin for me after I popped it out of the ground. Of course I had to give them some of the coins that I found. It made for a very enjoyable afternoon.
