GT rechargable batt pac with broken clip ??

bootyhoundpa

Well-known member
has anyone ever removed the guts out of the rechargable battery pac and put them into a new plastic case ie--the alkaline battery pac case?? one of the two plastic clips on my rechargable battery pac has a broken clip... rather than buying a new rechargable battery pac i might try swapping cases... what do you think..

The outside of the pack appears to be the same. There's also indents on the alkaline pack where the charging light and plug should be located, so it should be possible.

The battery clip design on the Sovereign GT and Elite leaves a lot to be desired, but at least it's an improvement over the the old style.... :rage:

To prevent the clips from breaking I use a thin stainless washer and short loop of braided fishing line. At the top of the battery pack there's a half circle indentation where a small washer can be slid into. You can then tie a loop of braided line to the washer, and leave a tab to pull on. This way you don't have to force the tabs to remove the battery pack.

are talking about..Switching cases,it worked for me.I have the original battery pac.Its 4 years old and I've had to change cases twice because of cracked clips.

I've been using a rechargable with one broken clip for several years. Just be careful with the other clip! It's been no problem.

I woudn't worry about it unless the ther one breaks off too.

While I have nothing to add to the broken clip. I will add that my clips should break soon. I have to use a flat screw driver to remove my pack each time I need to charge?
I used to be able to pry it out with fingers I can't now! The last time I did the pack flew about 20 ft across the floor! I know of several friends that have broken clips in just
a few weeks as well?

thank you all very much for the feed back,,my computer crashed 10 minutes after i posted this question....all good now...thank you sand scoop ,i knew i couldnt have been the 1st person with this idea......

I have a friend who wrapped velcro tightly around the top of the blue control box of his Sovereign all the way around his rechargeable battery pac. To do this, remove the blue control box as if hip mounting it and wrap the velco strip around the whole blue control box extending around the battery pac and back to the top of the control box. My friend used the same velcro strip for years and never had a problem. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

I noticed that the battery on my GT was getting hard to remove & suspected that the tabs would eventually break off.

To remedy this I used very fine sandpaper on the sides of the battery, just enough to make easing it in & out of the casing easier.

No problems removing it now.

Fix the broken clips by placing a thin Velcro Strip around the control box when the tabs on your batteries break.

This way your batteries will be as good as new and not have to be replaced just because they have broken clips.
