GT question

Hi all

My wife and I hunt with an Excal and a GT. We usually search in the surf around 1 to 2 feet of water. For some reason I can never get the GT to run quiet in the surf like the Excal.
It seems when ever a wave runs over the coil on the GT it sounds off.I can run the Excal sens at like 10 Oclock and have to back down the GT sens at around 2 Oclock but it still squawks when water goes over the coil.
I have both machines running their stock coils. I've checked all the connections . I'm just starting to wonder if that's just the way it's going to be. Before I bought the GT I thought it was basically an Excal just not water prof but with a few extra features. You guys think maybe I have a bad coil?

Thank you

Ken / Denise

Is it possible I've had iron mask turned on in the water, could this maybe add to the wave causing noise?

Bromly - My GT actually runs much quieter than my Excal II in wet sand/surf, especially in 1 to 2 foot of surf. Go figure. I've tried iron mask on or off, no real difference with my particular unit. I use Disc only, no all metal.

the excal has its iron mask on at all time but hey, give the GT a try without it and try pinpoint as well. try all your settings.

Ive got both and both operate smoothly if the sens is not to high.

Wow, now I'm really confused . If I keep the sen at 12:00 on the Excal, not even a wave crashing on the coil can make it burp. Only when I crank it up to say 9:00 does it start to notice the waves on Disc.
I'm begging to think my coil may have a small crack or something on my GT that I just can't see.

Thanks for your response!

Ken

Ken are both coils the same size?

Also I would think(not sure, just guessing) that a cracked coil or tear in the cable where water is getting to the wires, you would have a problem at any sensitivity.

Can you try another coil on your GT? Do you have a coil cover on the GT that is loaded up with mineralized sand? Does it work ok in auto sens?
