GT Plastic Bolt Screw Thingy

BeachBat

New member
I think I need to get a replacement plastic bolt screw thingy (the bit that connects the coil to the shaft)........

Just want to make sure I get the correct size - so is there a code or something corresponds to the correct size for me to order...

I am in England - and looking at plastic bolts here there would seem to be a coded size, not sure whether its the same in the US but any info appreciated as I may be able to cross reference and find what I am looking for.

Its still holding ok at the moment - but I think I would rather have a few of these around as the thread on the bolt looks pretty useless.

Thanks..

They are standard 1/4-20 plastic bolts and nut. Try the local RC Hobby shop first. They are wing bolts. You'll get a pack of 4 for $2.49 The thread size does matter but buy the matching nuts.

I would go to your local hardware store and find a nylon bolt and nut

You have excellent hardware stores in America - I know that from experience.... unfortunately they are little less 'excellent' over here (crap would be a good substitute word!).

But you have helped me immensely just by using the word 'Nylon' - that brings up a far greater range in my online search...

Thanks

We do have RC Hobby Shops here in England but not very near - but thanks for the info "standard 1/4-20" that should work........

Yep, wing bolts for RC planes are just nylon bolts. I use those myself, but the nylon nut can be hard to find. Some people get nylon bolts from the toilet repair section of a home improvement store. I think these are all bigger but they drill out the coil and shaft to accept them. I know that's an old trick some WOT users use to keep that coil from flopping around in the water.

Thanks Critter - thats exactly the issue at the moment - finding the nut.......... but I am on the case....... The thought of me putting a drill anywhere near my detector would probably make my machine sprout legs and run away.... at high speed...
