GT Owners

The all metal trac is used for gold hunting where the ground changes often from what I understand and has nothing to do with the Disc and the BBS of the Sovereign so to me it is not needed if you hunt in disc. If you are hunting in all metal that i would say it may have to be used.
Just my opinion from what I understand and from my use of a GT since they came out, it is quite a detector for sure.

I believe according to the owners manual that ground balance only works in all metal however i have ground balanced in all metal then switch over to disc.. i sometimes think there may be a bit of a carry over effect but the owners manual says not... the way i figure it if you are not finding anything anyway what do you have to lose..

Like Rick I only hunt in Disc. mode. The Disc. mode is deeper and you can have a very good idea by the nulls, tones, and ID numbers what's underneath your coil. HH Ron

Frank, I've tried that then switched to disc and I don't see the need (nor any difference when I did) as stated here so I don't GB anymore. Only if I was going to hunt in all metal like what's been stated would I GB. Had the Excal & GT out yesterday and did well.
Be well bud...people still bring up that wonderful, filling soup you made anytime there is mention of a polar bear hunt.

Sorry I missed this Bruce, haven't been over here for sometime. Thanks all for the replies.

Glad everyone enjoyed the soup Bruce. Nothing like HOT homemade soup after a COLD day of beach hunting.

I only hunt in disc mode.

I do it. I know I don't need it when in disc mode but it is a mind thing and something I do out of habit.

Hey how the heck are you? I know it's a long haul for you to get to the meetings. Through this forum I had contact with Ted. He said he saw you the other day.
I had a decent year detecting and will manage to get to the shore during the winter when conditions are just right. I hit the site we hold our Polar Bear hunts on wednesday (12/10) and instead of being striped, it was sanded in. A few coins and no bling…not even a wheat.

That's been a tough spot this year ( condition wise ) , although I have pulled a couple gold out of there this year,it hasn't been easy.

I was wondering if it made a difference. I beleive it works automatically in disc. So GB in AM then switching probably has no effect once you switch the machine over. Its probably almost instantly GBd automatically on its own once in disc. Has anyone tested this in the field? hh gl -joe
