GT Meter

New member
Does anyone have a solution for the mounting position of the meter on the straight rod (GT)? I have a hard time seeing it, I am thinking of mounting it on the handle.

Hauk
I have the same problem.Dave at Dixie Detectors has a different shaft that mounts the meter on the pistolgrip(for lack of a better term). He also has a mount that you can attach to the GT shaft that will change this angle.I'm going to get one or the other this winter.Bill

I had the same problem and mounted a sun ray probe under the meter to solve it but before I did that I bought from Rick ND a extra mount and riveted it to the top of the hand handle which really made it easy to see. Kinda awkward and more apt to mess something up but I COULD SEE IT and that was important to me. Then when I went to the sun ray probe and didnt need the mount on the handle top I found a quater would slide in there and stay so it was handy any time to set the meter :jump:
Good Luck

Hey Hauk,I have a Brand NEW Sov-GT Meter Mount, that I never used, because I have the SunRay DTI-III Meter mounted on top ofmy SunRay In-Line Probe. I believe Dave at
Dixie sells the Slide On Meter Mount version for $25,plus shipping. I will sell you mine for $23.00 shipped USPS Money Order. If you are interested, call me today as I will be out
metal detecting and won't be on a computer until late tomorrow night, My ph# is (302) 354-5661, call me anytime, leave your ph#, and I'll call you back on my dime, when I check
my cell ph.messages. You can see pictures of the Meter Mount on Dave's Dixie Detectors, because I CANNOT POST A PICTURE OF IT!! Best of LUCK, whatever you decide.

meters are for deaf people ,,,or deaf and dumb ............can someone tell me what a meter can do that sound does not do better

There was a sound I thought was some type of pull tab but ended up being shallow coins and the meter was 550 which means silver. no jumping around on the meter either. the meter told me to dig so i did. Look at it this way, explorers have target id, to me if you duct tape the target id on the explorer you would have the same detector as the sovereign excepth for adjustabilty on controls. use the meter with the sovereign u are going to pass up on good targets. trust me.
Minelab told me the sovereigns can run anywhere the explorers can whether its silver or gold u are looking for. regardless that the explorer has more frequencies, they say it doen't matter. people don't learn their sovereign and jump to the explorers.
minelab told me the depth is the same between the sovereign and explorer.
So if explorer people use their target ID why should sovereign users not use their meter. its highly accurate.

I think the meter is the number one accessory for the Sov. Its very accurate(the 180 meter).
between the tones and meter youve got some great info to decide whether to dig or not.

One individual hearing type of headphone all come into play and I hear tones very well but always nice to have that super accurate meter especially if you do the Sov. wiggle...and again whatever works..On seashores certainly no meter needed but on land certainly a plus as digging is hard work....

This morning I drilled the two pop rivets out of the meter mount on the shaft, I then drilled a 1/8" hole in the joystick (Straight down from the top), I made the hole about 1-1/4' deep, It went thru the strap, I used the front hole in the mount and used a 1" sheetmetal screw and attached the mount on top of the joystick, The meter fits tightly and is very easy to see. hauk

It's simply another tool my friend. for me it's a 2nd opinion at times when the sound is iffy.
I always listen for tones first and use the meter secondary but I would in no way not use the meter. It has helped me sort through signals before that I might have passed over otherwise.

We shouldn't take an attitude that visual against sound when wee should be using them together.
