FLOWING HAIR CENT, CHAIN REVERSE (1793 ONLY)

Reprinted with permission from Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of Early United States Cents 1793-1814, by Walter Breen, edited by Mark R. Borckardt

These were the first cents made pursuant to the Act of January 14, 1793 at the new legal weight of 208 grains (13.48 grams), reduced from an impossibly high 264 grains (17.11 grams). They are the first mass production coins in any metal issued by the federal government on its own machinery, and within its own premises. For all practical purposes, these are the first regular issue United States coins

That is dream hunt come true! Amazing finds. I hope you can get back to this spot and give it another good combing. Congrats! - Jim

Beautiful finds. Can I be a little Jealous?? Congratulations.

thanks for all the comments... DD60 the back appears to be the standard wreath as it appears on other large cents....the coin is thicker than your normal large cent and not quite as round diameter as normal large cents..... funny thing is it actually came in like a low to mid tone .... i thought it was another mexican peso like i dug up there back in december.... i was hunting in band 2 silent search and noise cancel along with iron mask on with the threshold barely audible --i know ,what sense does it make hunting in silent search and have the threshold hum-- i dont know but it worked for me ...... with this set up i was able to swing at a snails pace and still get good target responce which seemed to help with target separation.... i went back the next day and was only able to pull out 2 flat buttons and a toasty 1810 ish large cent......

My mistake it still is a 1793 LC but just as rare !!! your right it has a wreath on the reverse WOW  if it is not a counterfeit coin CONGRATS THAT IS A BIG MONEY FIND !!! What ever you do dont clean that coin anymore !!!!!!!!! have it checked by a professional coin collector .JIM

The 3 in 1793 can be seen very clear on bottom of coin . I do dont think you realize what you found ?? :detecting:

Awesome finds there. Thats one heck of a variety of coins for a single hunt, congratulations and hope many more are ahead of you!

ya neil the edge does have something on it ...im not sure if its lettered edge or the vine and bar edge ,just not enough detail on the edge....
