GT find today

New member
Just moved to Florida and got out today for the second time since moving last
week. Hit on a nice 10k (emerald) ring with real diamonds (small) that was my second
signal of the day, three scopes deep at the water line. It was a scratchy signal
(reading a bouncing 140 - 142 on the GT with the Ron's meter)
that I really didn't want to dig but since I had just got there, what did I have
to lose?... other than a few coins, that was it until the cremetory tag
which after snapping a pic, I put back in the water. Great day out there but I
wasn't geared to go in the water, maybe later in the week.
I'm assuming the scratchy signal was from all the holes and diamond posts on the ring.
Seriously if it would have been a signal at the end of a hunt and I was tired, this ring
wouldn't have seen the light of day cause I wouldn't have dug....lucky I guess
it was the second hit of the day.
Already on the wife's finger....
HH all

That's nice. I am envious of all you guys that have beaches to hunt!!

Wow taht is an awesome ring. Your wife must be very happy. That tag sure is an unusual find.
Good luck Gary

Great ring emeralds are still on my list , good hunt Jim

Good work Cliff! Great pics and honest write up on that signal too..I really hear you there...its good to warm up on those little foily pings..makes a guy wonder what we walk over after a full day of hunting and maybe passing up on those little annoying gum wrapper signals heading back to the house? Thats the kind of thought that drives a guy mad!

Cliff, excellent ring. The tag is interesting never find those in the parks I search. Thanks for sharing.Ron

thats a beauty...... and yes i would agree those points on those diamonds would probably give a scatchy coarse kind of sound....... i know when i dig up oddly shaped stud earings with pointy ends it gives unsmooth spiky sound..... good to see your new home is treating you well...happy hunting....

Fantastic ring! And yea, I bet it's the shape of that spikey crown that caused it to sound bad. Often foil will sound like that because of it's rippled surface if it's been crinkled. That's one of the great things about the Sovereign- Tone alerts of a Minelab yet with long rich audio like some of the old analog units of yester-year.

We scanned in over 100 gold rings on the GT and found that only a handful gave a sick or "warbly" sound. All those were rings were a ton of fine spider-like webbing (much smaller than usual), had tons of holes in them and very thin material, or were cracked and not a complete loop. All the rest, even the thinnest of gold rings, gave mostly nice smooth, warm, "round", "quality" types of sound. Those are the ones I listen for when land hunting and being pickey, and if they don't change by more than say 2 digits no matter which way I sweep over them. Seems like every target I dig that changes by 3 digits or more depending on angle of sweep is odd shaped trash. One of the perks to the super high conductivity resolution on the Sovereign in the foil to copper penny range. That's why it can distinctly see nickels from tabs and most foil junk below the nickels too.

I gotta remember all of these tips for the sovereign. I have to remember that 2-digit technique: I hunt land so not tooworried about missing rings but anything to differentiate in that range is a plus.

I like it too! Nice!

One thing on the excal n sovern, I have found many a Gold rings with the excal, not many sound perfect untill they are out of the wetsand, infact most Nickles have sounded better then most of the gold rings I have found. I would not be able to say this unless I videoed most of my hunts with audio....
