GT chest mount

I could be losing it. I thought I saw somewhere, a chest mount for the GT that includes the harness. I went back 39 pages hoping to find a post but didn't see or I missed it. Help.

You're not losing it. Here you go, and a link below the pics to how he says he used extra chest straps for the Minelab bag to hold it in place while water hunting. I don't use any extra straps other than what the Minelab bag comes with. I just put it around my neck and then my left arm through it, with the strap shortened just big enough to get my head/arm through so the bag stays high up on my left chest area. So my bag sits a bit higher than that so I can wade a good bit above my belly button. Just have to be sure not to lean forward while scooping or the bag might dunk with my setup as it won't hug my chest and will swing forward if I do that.

That's what I saw. So I guess the bag is a standard Minelab hipmount?

PS
I knew I could count on you!!

Yep, they made a blue bag and a black one. I think they are both the same. I have the black. Refer to the Sovereign accessories sticky for more info from I think Rick on any difference (or maybe no differences) between the bags.

You don't need the Minelab bag. Any good small sports bag with a harness will work. I remember some guys were using something for binoculars that would chest strap the bag to your chest. I'll see if I can dig that up and post it in the sticky, if I didn't already post a link to that thread. Have to check. That thread had a lot of good discussion in it a long while back with pics if I remember right, so I'm going to dig for it if I didn't already post a link to it.

I chest mount my GT using the harness on the link below. I tried the strap around the back of the neck and hated it. Sweat and it rubbing was a no go for me. This harness is so comfortable and is mesh so you don't sweat or get rub burns. It is made for a camera case to use by active photographers like skiiers or climbers. At $36 it costs more than two straps but comfort is important to me. It is shown with the optional camera bag. Just use any bag like the one shown above or the ML bag offered at several dealers. http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/digital-holster-harness-v2.aspx

I agree, I tried the around the neck set-up, no go for me either. The harness you show here looks to be great, and cost effective as well. Thanks for posting the link.

I just posted several links in the Sovereign and Excal stickys for chest/hip mounting ideas from people with some great threads with pics I dug up from people who have tried it all.

Speaking of necks, my water excursions over the last week has left my neck pretty darn sunburned. Last time I went to dry hunt the same yesterday I took a white hand towel and stuck it under my baseball cap, so that it was hanging down over my neck. Even though I used sun block on any exposed skin, I feel the hand towel did wonders to keep my neck from getting any more burned than it already is.

Well I, "had" to go to Sportmen's Warehouse this morning for some powder. I ended up also buying this Allen Fishing Chest Pack for my use as a chest mount for the GT. It is perfect. I paid $28.

Nice! Is there an opening on the bottom for the coil lead?

Yea, a hat like that would be perfect for my beach or water hunting, and as an added benefit most people probably won't bother to come up and ask me questions like they always do because they probably figure a guy wearing a hat like that doesn't have much common sense. Just joking, because if I had a hat like that I'd be wearing it on hot sunny days for sure. Another perk is you could probably soak the back neck guard in the water and it'd help keep you cooler in the hot sun. A trick I used to use on boats when fishing for walleye on a hot summer day when there was not even a breeze blowing, and it worked wonders.

Yes, my wife won't let me wear it in public when she's with me! LOL. And we always keep the hats wet.

That is a nice hat but the wrong color for my beaches. Florida sun will make that OD green HOT. Now, a white one would do the job! I learned from my time in the Army not to wear OD Green.
