GT battery question ; Rick anybody know this one

grumpy

New member
Hi guys; Rick ND anyone.
Got a Gt battery question. The first load in the gt went down and made this awful sound iratically and found it was the battery going. All informed me of the sound and the relation to the battery running out.
Now I have not got that sound which is ok with me but on the targets sometimes and getting more frequent I get this slow moan over the target instead of the shorter sound like usual. Kinda like the old record players when you had them on to slow a speed for those of you that remember record players::))
I am assuming this is another and yet different way the machine tells you your battery is going dead ????????
Is there anyway to check the level in your batteries in the GT when you think there is a need????
Thanks to you all for all the good answers we get

PS I have the make and model of the connectors used on the Sov Gt and the Ex series coil cables if anyone doesnt have a sorce for them and needs them pm me for them. My new Gt one was not a reusable friendly one.

HI Grumpy,

I been thinking on this and I don't feel what you are hearing is a low battery alert as it will start out more with a higher pitch and get more frequent and possibly only last 5 minutes and just go to a loud thresholds you can not adjust. What you can do to make sure is take your alkaline pack and put a set of Alkaline batteries in it and try that, don't use recharge ables in the alkaline pack. Now try this and see if this makes a difference, I don't think it will but worth a try as anything is possible.
What does the meter say when it is doing this as far as numbers are concerned as some of this low tone moaning can be foil or even the tone after nulling out from a disc target or even iron.
Are you running any disc or notch so that iron will be the only thing that will null out the threshold? Also you are running it in disc with the one switch on pinpoint?
Like I say anything is possible such as a large target too can do this or one close to the coil. Check next time you think it is doing it is to see if it is repeatable and try to pinpoint it.

Let use know what you find out.

Rick Im still running in the start type set up with the switches where they are for that and the knobs are three notches up on each. I started with the recharge battery and killed it then put in the battery pack while I charged the rechargeable and have still got the AA batteries in there I have never put the rechargeable back in. I guess I have about ten hours on the aa pack but it is different sounds than when the recharge went dead.
I hope to get to town this week to do some more checking on it and if I can make it do it again regular like it was I will pop in the rechargeable and see if it quits.
Is there no way to look at something and see if the battery is low on the GT like the SE???
Have a good one and keep servin the cool ones its that time a year you know ::))

Grumpy, You can check your voltage on either battery pack with a voltage meter. If you call Robert at MINELAB USA in Las Vegas, he can walk you thru-it. Un-fortunately, I don't remember the procedure, but you will need a voltage meter. Best of luck, Les Robinson

the only way to tell when battery gets low is it will give of a high screach every 30 seconds or so,(if you check it with a voltmeter at this point it can still read above 12v because it is not under load) rechargables work fine in the alkaline pack but maybe not as long, all depends on the rating, i have a set of 2800mah and they last longer than the original 1000mah pack. Using headphones will prolong battery life even longer

the slow moan sounds like large aluminium foil, hard to lock on and pinpoint accurately, have you dug one to see what it is?

if running in Disc the track/fix/pinpoint switch doesn't work, its only for all metal (its writen in the manual)
