GT all metal mode.......this is interesting........

Decided to an extreme test just to see what would happen.

Took a good sized piece of aluminum flashing and dropped a Suzy B. right in the middle of it.

Set sens to min, set the GT to track, and lowered the coil to just a few inches over the aluminum sheet. Balanced itself in only 3-4 seconds. Hit the Suzy with every pass.

WOW !!!!

was it cut useing roll cutter or hand shears?what year was the coin? how old were the batteries? seriously: sounds like one heck of a machine!gonna try that with the excal and 250 tomorrow!

The aluminum was some leftover scrap from a couple other projects. Was cut with a air powered nibbler tool. Can't see how that would matter.

Coin was 1980 Suzy dollar.

don't know if it would work with an Xcal. Did not try with my 2a. Just the GT.

Would try with steel sheet metal, but don't have a big enough piece.

any detector would get that in all-metal. does the gt meter give a readout in all-metal. with the older sovereign in 0 disc. i'm not sure if you would get an accurate meter reading. i do believe that if you tried it with the steel sheet metal in 0 disc. no signal would occur because of the iron mask.

Would not expect it to work in disc mode.

Of course, no meter ID in all metal.

Never tried this sort of thing before. Don't know if I was more shocked about picking up the coin, or how fast the GT balanced and tracked over such a surface.

i guess i'm still confused. how do you know that you're picking up the coin and not the piece of aluminum.

Just tried with a quarter and had more trouble picking it up. doubtful that you would ever find dirt so bad.

How fast you bob the coil makes a lot of difference in how fast it will balnce also.

Interesting animal.

still trying to learn all i can about the sovereign. any machine in all-metal should pick up the aluminum. i do know the sovereign will not pick up a nickel on top of iron in 0 disc. in all-metal i don't see how you can tune out the aluminum and get a quarter.

I got it to balance over the aluminum and pick up a dollar. Was not working good with a quarter.
Don't think I would bother with a nickel over iron.

trying to learn all i can about the new sovereign. do i understand that in all-metal tracking that you can discriminate aluminum but still pick up coins.
