GT & 4 dimes in ground testing

4 dimes in ground ,6"--7"----8"--9" at lowest sens nothing in disq turned to 3 oclock got the 6" then to 2 oclockand got the 7"then at 1 oclock was geting a wimper on the 8" then at 12 i was geting a digable signal on the 8" dime but the 9" would null . In all metal i could get them all turned on the auto sens and lost all targets I must have bad ground for it to do that so i went back and found just a bit left of 12 noon i was getting my best clearest signal so i turned the sens up even more and the signals started to break up on the 8" so i turned it up some more and nothing on the 8" and lost the 7"and the 6 was chopy turned it up all the way and lost all signals so it really does matter how you set the sencitivity less can be more and more less so befor you start hunting a spot do some quick in ground testing or you may lose lots of goodies now i can tell you i have owned a M-6 a cebola and they would not get past 5" in this same ground in disq now this GT is getting 8" with a clean and digable signal thats not to bad and if the ground gets to bad the all metal will cut thru it . Now no disq seting got a clear repetable signalson the 9" dime but i got a intermittant sound but in all metal i got it no problem sorry for so many posts Gun the vale

In 90% of the time I run my sensitivity at 10-11 o"clock postion and real rare to go below 12, but have run max in some areas, but have to go slower than nornal wich will be real slow. I think you will find on actual coin target that have been burried for years, not preburied coins as actual will give you a better signal when they are deep. I never can get the depth on coin I burried 5-7 years ago as what I can on actual targets that have been there for over 50 years.

Good luck and hope to see you post some great finds soon as I feel you have what it takes to learn the Sovereign..

Your ground is similar to mine. I don't know how long you've had them buried but it will get better with time. Past the 8 inch mark on a dime is where I lose a dig-able signal with almost all detectors in my ground. But I can say that a naturally buried target will pick up much deeper. At least 2 more inches.

interesting test on sensitivity settings.

you bring up an interesting point gunnar... i have a dime and quarter burried outside my back door... often times i will tune up on these two targets just to see how much the ground interference comes into play.... amazingly it changes quite a lot depending on moisture content and who knows what else..if you keep those dimes buried i would recommend tuning up on them every once in a while just like you described in your post.... keep swinging and adjusting the sensetivity till you get optimum clarity and if your ground is like mine you will probably find some days those dimes will scream on a low sensetivity setting and other days you will have a hard time finding any of them....

I think that will be the thing to really master is when i get to some diffrent soil , the abilaty to set the sens just right will make the diffrence in what you can find but I am glad the machine has the capability to adjust , but at lest now I know what to do , somone could think it was a badd machine when maybe thear sens is just set to high, its the same with the musky you have to ground balance just right and have sensitivity just right to get good sounds & best depth or you may get the impression it was a junk machine probly goes for the Xcalbur as well

You've found what I found. Max stable sensitivity does not always give the best depth or at least the best ID/audio on targets. I've found they will null out or degrade some times when sensitivity is maxed to the edge of stability. This was true on my Explorers as well. I always do a buried dime test at a new site and then calibrate it that way. Usually around 1:30 to 2PM gives me the best ID at depth. Anything higher will move around or degrade the ID and audio or even null. Now, with the 12x10 I'm finding it often does want the sens set to the edge of stability, but for sure you have to sweep even slower. Seems the lower the setting the faster the machine wants you to sweep, and the higher the setting the slower it wants for best performance.
